What Do You Think Of Laney / Lanie

What Do You Think Of The Name
Laney / Lanie
For a baby girl??

I have a friend who is named Layne (it's pronounced Lane). I personally prefer Laney/Lanie to Layne/Lane. It's more feminine and I don't think it's that cutesy.

I think it sound whiny.

I always think of the way Jerry said it on Seinfeld, "LLAAAAINNY."

I think whiny is a good way to describe it.
It's too childish- and nickname-ish sounding, imo.

that's my nickname! i think it's cute. my name is alayna, though.

I think it is a good nickname for Elaine or Elaina, but it probably wouldn't age well.

This, though I do love it as a nickname.

And I love your icon!

I think it's cute, but as a nickname. It's too cutesy and insubstantial as a full name. It could be short for Elaine, Helaine, Delaney, or Alaina. Or if you want more uncommon, maybe Ghislaine, Marjolaine, or Eglantine.

i know someone named Lanie
and my friends daughters name is Delaney and i call her Laney Rae all the time.
i like it but i think i prefer it as a nick name.

[identity profile] tiphanism.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like it - it doesn't sound like a real name to me, more like a nickname or diminutive.

[identity profile] a-tergo-lupi.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it fine.

[identity profile] sarahness.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it as a nick name. I don't think it's formal enough for a given name. But that's just my opinion,

[identity profile] monkey-fruit.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really care for it, though I do like the name Layne/Laine...

[identity profile] skittles22088.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer it as a nickname for Delaney.

[identity profile] rowan-belle.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like it. It sounds too childish and nickname-y. It also reminds me of the movie She's All That which I hate.

[identity profile] laminy.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Too cutesy. As a girl with the middle name Layne, Laney/Lanie is just..offensive. Well, haha, not really offensive, but I guess it's kind of like when people with nice, normal names see them horribly misspelled. It sounds perma-young, like Laney/Lanie will never grow up.

[identity profile] patsfan610.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
i know someone named Emily who sometimes goes by Lainie

[identity profile] mrssubee.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's really cute- but, I feel like it's a nickname- like it should be short for something

[identity profile] arbus.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
i HATE how nasal-y it is.

baby girls arent baby girls forever, for what its worth.

[identity profile] freezemyazaleas.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
I know a Laney and a Lainey, and they're both nicknames (Delaney and Elaine). I used to love the name, but one of the girls I know ruined it for me.

[identity profile] museofmyself.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
I really like it, but I prefer Langley.

[identity profile] 0o-faerie.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
For a baby girl - yes.
For an adult - no.

[identity profile] soulsplinter8.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it as a nickname for Elaine.

[identity profile] brittmarie.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Lanie. :]

[identity profile] cremepuff.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Laney/Lanie should be a nickname, not a birth name. It's too cutesey and little girl sounding...it will not age well when she's a middle-aged career woman.
