Ok so I was in class today and we started a new term. The teacher took attendance and there were some odd names and names that i was confused when they said here and were a different gender than i thought they would be.

The weird name was xanthe

Gender confusion
Tiffani- was a male
Stacie- was a male

I was so confused and thought they must have been teased so much growing up

I know ALOT of Stacey's for a guy. They were all spelled Stacey or Stacy tho.

I actually kinda like Xanthe:p I know someone who named their little boy Xan, and I thought it was SO CUTE!

When i was in highschool, there was a boy name Vivian in my class. On the first day of school, when the teacher called attendance and called "Vivian", she was surprised to see a male put his hand up. She looked at him and said,"What were your parents thinking?".

The next day, she apologized to him and said that her name was Jean and that there were men by that name. She felt badly.

Shannon is also a male's name, but I like it Shannen for a girl.

Tiffani? As a guy? WOW. I'm shocked Stacie is even a guy anymore (it used to be a guys' name, and then at least a unisex name. I mean, I guess it still is, but it's kind of gone to the girls) but Tiffani? Spelled like that? WOW. Poor guys. How old?

I've heard Stacy/ey for a guy before but ie looks too feminine for me. Well, so does Stacy/ey, but I've at least seen it before. But TIFFANI?? WTF?

I quite unisex names on boys, but yes those have taken a one way ticket to girl name territory. The spellings are quite stereotypically feminine too. Suppose guys would have more of a problem with having a girls name than vice versa.

Found out a few years ago that my given middle name is traditionally a boys name, which was quite odd but there you go.
There's a pretty even split of male and female Sages, so am happy with that. They tend to be balanced with clearly gendered middle names which helps.

Tiffani is hard to believe as a given boy name, and I wonder if there isn't more to the story.

I love naming that breaks traditional gender roles, generally. Both as a case of returning to the roots of a name (Shannon, Whitney, Allison for boys), or just more modern "rule-breaking." I am not a big fan of gender boxing, and like bending naming rules.

"Tiffani" and all variations are not names I'm fond of, period.
