What do you think about Pearl?

It's a name my partner brought up the other day out of the blue, and I was wondering what everyone thought of it. Is it too 'old lady'?

It reminds me of The Scarlet Letter.

I think it's quite nice, but not my style at all.

I love it, it's in my tops! If I ever have a kid, and that kid happened to be female, I'd try to sneak Pearl in the name somewhere.

my father and stepmothers cat is named pearl. they named her that because they were living in the south when they got her, and wanted an "old southern name"

that aside, i would think it was sweet if i met a little girl named pearl.

Haha, it reminds me of Pearl the Landlord (http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/74/the-landlord-from-will-ferrell-and-adam-ghost-panther-mckay) and Pearl from Spongebob Squarepants.

Either way, I like it!

I think it's a very delicate and feminine name, and though it is kinda old-fashioned, it is very pretty.

Love it. I had a great uncle Pearl... kind of funny but I definitely prefer it on a girl.

It reminds me of Mr. Krabs daughter from Spongebob.

I've been really liking this name lately (as well as Nell for some reason).
Is it too "old lady"? No. It is an old-fashioned name, but it stands up well in the test of time.

It also reminds me of the Scarlet Letter. That was one of the reasons I initially started to like it. I still have mixed feelings on it. Sometimes, I feel like I don't really like the name but have positive connections with it: the little girl Pearl in the novel--dark hair, bright red dress (in Puritanical times!), a mischevious little sprite. Such a contrast to her name. I think, for me, it has middle name potential more than anything.

Definitely an old lady name to me, I can't imagine it on anyone under 50 (and even that...)

I don't really like it. My first thought was The Scarlet Letter, then Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of The Black Pearl, then Spongebob Squarepants... and I see that all of these have been brought up by others, as well. Those aren't things that I would want people to associate my child with, personally.

Makes me think of the old lady Brian falls in love with on an episode of Family Guy. I think it's ugly due to the "earl" sound.

I like it. It's rather unusual nowadays without being weird, and works well on all ages IMO. It doesn't seem old-ladyish to me at all, perhaps because someone I know has a baby Pearl.

As much as I like old lady names, I can't think of it on anyone other than an old lady. I think if I knew a little girl named Pearl, it would become more normal. Also, there are names that I would never want to name my child, but that I want other people to use, and Pearl is one of them. If that makes any sense...

And I bet in a few months I'll think differently. So many names have grown on me since I've been in this community.

To clarify, I don't really know how I feel about it. ha.
