(no subject)

My former grade school recently had its 8th grade graduation ceremony, and they listed the grads online. That is when I saw some unfortunate spellings of common names:

Taiylour
Qori
Khayla

Khayla I suppose I can tolerate, and perhaps even Qori. But the first one? Ew.

I can't tolerate any of them. They are ridiculous.

I'm assuming Qori is supposed to be Cory?
It took me a while to get that one.

They're all horrible.

Qori made me cringe.

this brings up the question: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

[identity profile] erzsebet.livejournal.com 2009-06-08 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
which brings up the response: THEY CANNOT SPELL.

all of those make me sad. :(

Taylor, Cory/Cori, and Kayla are all perfectly respectable names.

I am just curious: in Germany we have so called "Standesamt" (register office) which is responsible concerning the certification of birth. The people who work there often decide if the name can be given to a baby or not, like for example the name "Borussia"; or if a name is more a boy's name than a girl's name or vice versa, for example "Luca".
Do you have such a similar office ?
You have to save these children from their parents.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that in the U.S. parents can name their kids whatever they want... which is how we wind up with names like Espn (after ESPN, the sports television network). Ugh.

I was under the impression you could do almost anything, but nothing really "bad" like naming your kid Satan or F*ckhead that sort of thing. For spellings and other weird names I think there's no rules.

You'd probably be highly advised against it, but I think you can name your kid Satan here. I wouldn't be surprised.

Ack! WHYYYY!?! Why, oh why, oh why!!?

[identity profile] aimeewins.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. To all three.

Khayla? Seriously? I don't like when people put a H on the end of my name, so I think I'd punch someone if they spelt it like that.

As for the other two... *cringe*
