[identity profile] bookgirl83.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Okay, my husband and I just found out that we're expecting #3, a complete surprise since the plan was to stop at 2, and we're coming up blank on names.

So far the only thing we've set is that my husband wants Arwen as either first or middle if it's a girl. I have no issues with it, but since he picked it I get to pick what we use with it. The only thing I've come up with so far is Arwen Elizabeth; I'm not sure how much I like it though.

We've got absolutely nothing for a boy. We liked the names Andrew and Gray, but my brother is naming his new baby Andrew Graier, so those are both out.

We have a girl named Emily Rose (called Rose) and a boy named James Gresham (called Jamie).

So does anyone have some suggestions? Even something that just sounds good with the other kids names would be good. I'm just running out of my own ideas and need something to jump-start my imagination.

I absolutely love Arwen, but it sounds like it would be more of a suitable middle name being that your other children have very classic names, simple names.

Charlotte Arwen
Emma Arwen
Rebecca Arwen
Elise Arwen
Olivia Arwen

Benjamin
Wesley
Matthew
David
Alexander
Elliot

I also agree with Charlotte and that Arwen as a first name doesn't really go with your other kids.

Plus I adore the nn Lottie.

How about Elizabeth as a first name? Arwen is cute, but I don't think it works well with Emily, Rose (since that's what she goes by), and James. How about...

How do you feel about Gregory? It's close to Gray, without being too obvious. The reason I thought of it is I have a close friend named Andrew Gregory.

It seems like you have pretty traditional English taste in names, so based on that, I'd suggest that you consult this list: http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/eng.php

My personal suggestions would be:
Boys:
Adam
Brandon/Brendan
Charles
Christopher
David
Elliott
Evan
Ian
Jeffrey
Joseph
Kyle
Matthew
Michael
Nicholas
Robert
Samuel
William
Zachary

Girls:
Anne/Anna
Catherine
Charlotte
Christine
Diane/Diana
Elizabeth
Hannah
Holly
Isabelle/Isabella
Lucy
Margaret
Michelle
Nicole
Olivia (which for some reason is a personal favorite as a sibset with Emily)
Sarah
Victoria

I know a little girl named Arwen Brooke. I think she's 5 now. Arwen Elizabeth is pretty.

It's a lovely name, but...you name that poor kid Arwen as a first name & she'll be hearing about Tolkien for the rest of her life! :D

Marian Arwen?

I actually think Arwen Elizabeth is gorgeous and sounds much better in that order than any other combination using Arwen as a middle name. Since you call Emily by her middle name, what would be the harm in calling Arwen by her middle name (or a derivative of it) too? I think Jamie, Rose, and Lizzie (or Ellie, Libby, etc.) sound good as a sib-set. :o)
