I was a bit surprised that the name "Lynn" has never appeared on the social security list. I know that Lynn is more common / and over used as a middle name - but I thought it was semi-used for a first name.

Lyn and Lynne also had no apprences.

41 times. That's the number of times in 2005 that a name with either Lynn or Lyn as it's ending made the girl list.

What are your thoughts on the name Lynn? Great for a first? Better as a middle? Rather keep it with something such as Carolyn? Or do you highly dislike it period?

Lynn is my middle name - but it has family reasons comes from my mom's maiden name, so I don't think it has a "filler" however I do know or knew alot of people with Lynn as their middle and it was used as the filler excuse/reason which does bother me. I think it's too short to work as a middle, sounds incomplete for some reason. Far as an ending to a name it all depends on the name.

I dont think it is too short for a middle name, my middle name is Lee and I Love it. I always thought a middle name should either mean something special to you, or be short as to not take away from the first and last names, if it is being used as a filler.

I like the name Lynn for a first or middle name. I knew a Lynne, and she was the sweetest girl I knew!
I dont like Lyn added to a name like Carolyn, I like it alone:)

I'm a Jennifer Lynn, and while it's one of the most common [or use to be] name combos out there, it's not soo bad. I don't think it's too short.. no more so than 'Ann[e]' or 'Marie' .. or more popular ones nowadays like 'Rose' and 'Grace'. I'm not a really big fan of multi-syllabled middle names myself.

I was going to be Jennifer Lynne, but when I was born my mom decided that I didn't look like a Jennifer :)

I was going to be Angela Marie, but when I was born they thought I looked more like a Jennifer than an Angela.

I really like the way it sounds. I prefer Lynne for first names though.

Lyn looks incomplete to me.

I LOVE the name Lynn. Well, with the E. I'm an -e kind of person (Lynne, Anne, etc.). I also like -lynn, -lyn and -lynne names. I too am surprised that it's never been on the SSA list!

I think of it more as a middle name, and would prefer that as mine over Lesley (blech).

I prefer it as a middle name. I love the name Jacquelynn, and I would totally use that as a mn.

My name is Lynn Anne (one name, not Lynn as first and Anne as middle). I really like my name, it isnt too common. I'm not as fond of Lynn by itself though, possibly just because I know myself as Lynn Anne.

I was just thinking the same thing. I keep saying luh-nan when I try to say it casually.

My name is Kari Lynn, and I like it because I think they sound good together. My whole family uses both my first and middle names (Kari Lynn instead of just Kari), so it's a little odd for me to see Lynn used on it's own. Also, reading through this post and seeing Lynn so many times has made it look really weird to me. lol. (Like when you say a word so many times that it loses all meaning)

But I do think it's nice as a first name. More unique than using it as a middle name. :)

i like it ok for a middle name.

My mom is a Karolyn and my neice is Madalynn. I like both of those but I really dislike Lynn as a first name. Yeuch! But others do not agree with my own name choices. :)

I hate it as a middle name (no offense) because I feel like so many people just stick it there, even when it isn't the best choice of middle name to go with their first name. It's just so overused as a middle name and I don't think it complements many first names. However, I have no specific issues with it being used as a first name, or existing as part of a first name (e.g. Lyndsay, Caitlyn etc).

I feel it's a bit of a filler in the middle name spot sometimes, but it's a pretty name wherever it's used. I've honestly really come to dislike it at the ends of names, though. It used to be just Caitlin, Evelyn, Jocelyn and Carolyn, which was fine, then Madeleine started being spelled Maddelyn, and I guess that's okay... but now we have Breelyn and Faelyn and Ashlyn and Jaelyn and Kailyn and... ick! Too much! It's become really tacky.

HATE it for a first name, it's so boring, rhymes with bin & sin.

I hate it so much that if i think about the names i do like that end in lyn, they are ruined for that moment!

I don't like it for a first name, but it seems to go with everything for a middle name :)
