I've been thinking a lot about the irish name Colm lately.

I've tried to do some research as the correct pronunciation and I've come across several explations:

Calm
KUHlum
COLum as in column (this is how I've always imagined it being pronounced)

How would you pronounce it?
What do you think of the name?

Like Colm Meaney, O'Brien from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine? I like it, it's a bit too foreign-sounding for me to use, but I do like it.

i know nothing about how to speak in irish lol but when i read it i read it as col like "cold" and the a mmm sound hah

I read it as "cold" with an "m" instead of the mild "d"

It's pronounced a lot like the word column. I like Colm. I like a lot of names with that sort of sound... Callum, Colin, Columba.

As someone said above, like coal with an m on the end. I like it, but wouldn't use it...much to the disappointment of my "Star Trek" fan boyfriend.

Yeah, somebody else said 'coal' with an m at the end, and that's how I say it too. I'm kind of indifferent to it; I always think of the guy from Star Trek and that's about it.

Hey I'm Irish, just passing through, I know loads of Colms:)
They pronounce it Col-um.
Not so much coal?
But however you want to interpret it, it is a lovely name:)
