What do you think of the name Sjakina.

I know, it's cre8v fullstop, but a friend of a friend has a 6 year old daughter named Sjakina.

(It's pronounced Sha-ky-na)

What do you think?

I think it has a nice ring to it, but it's horrible to figure out how to pronounce/spell.

I'm sorry, it sounds like vagina. Kids are totally going to pick up on that and the poor little girl is going to have a tough road ahead of her.

i'm really not understanding how you put s and j next to each other and get a "sha". is this from another language??

I'm pretty sure one of the languages spoken in India (is it Hindi?) has that sound created from sj. Or someplace over around India. I'm pretty sure it's India.

But there's not such thing as S and J in Hindi. They use a different writing system.

Norwegian does the sj=sh thing for sure. Possibly also Swedish and Icelandic.

But I have never heard the name Sjakina itself.

I like it, but it is really hard to figure out how to pronounce. If you really like the sound of it, maybe mess around with the spelling until it makes more sense to the common Kindergarten teacher when taking attendance?

Maybe Shakyna?

I think it sounds pretty... kinda like Shakira, but yeah that spelling is a bit out there for the average person to figure out.

I like Shakira better though. It doesn't sound like an unmentionable.
