[identity profile] solyma.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was checking out the birth announcements in my city and came across some interesting names.

Disclaimer: I do not know these families in real life, so there may be a significant reason why the parents chose to spell their child's name a certain way that I don't know of. I also wanted to say that even if a name sounds made-up to me, it might not be. I did do a lot of googling to make sure some of these weren't just from different ethnic backgrounds. Anyway, just wanted to get that out of the way!

Interesting names:

Estella Blue
Elmer Uriel (I seriously feel sorry for this kid)
Izabella Psyche
Jr Cash
Hank Harry
Boden Lake
Harper Zoe

Youneeke spelling:

Aspyn Isabelle
Caeleigh Joanne
Jaymes Paul
Kloie Emelia
Raeven Mae
Dayne Alexander

Made-up sounding names:

Jazlyn Carol

Akaree Lanea
Bryrick Duane Lee
Kyden Therese
Zoey Irelin
Miriam Delenn

The riley names:

Ryely Jay
Brinna Riley Margaret

The 'aden names:

Kloie? you arent being serious.. you like that? Thats one of the most ridiculous botched spellings of a pretty name i've ever seen!

Kloie is seriously messed up looking. Ugggh. What on earth is wrong with Chloe?!

Nothing. I like both spellings, and others.

Yes. I don't consider any spellings of anything "botched." I love unique spellings; I'd never seen that one before and I really love it. I added it to my list.

Kloie compared to Chloe looks utterly mutilated. The poor girl will forever be spelling her name out and having to deal with "oh...*confused look* that's um... unusual." Since Chloe is the only appreciated spelling, (unlike names such as Katherine/Catherine which have history) she'll be forever known as Chloe with a K.. oh and to complicate it more, the IE.
What about Khlowey? that is a uniqie spelling of Chloe, makes the same sound. You still don't think that's botched? same difference!

I dont think its botched, but I dont like Ys at the end of girls names. It would be Khlowie. I like the Kh at the beginning.

My name is Sarah and I spell it out every time. I think many, many names are spell-worthy - common or not.

Oh no, i added this this maddness!
Sarah is the normal spelling though, you may only have to spell it out because people are dumb, havent heard the name before (impossible)or confuse it with Sara...In my opinion they are two different names anyway! Well, in england they are at least.
Honestly, the trauma poor Khlowie would go through, i hope you're not being serious.
The only person to get anything out of that spelling would be you... poor kid would think you wanted them just to play a mean practical joke on them and change the spelling as soon as they were legal.

I am serious, I do like the name, but that doesnt mean Im stupid. I would never name a child that (spelling) because I know the trauma she would experience forever.

Just becuase you really like a name doesnt mean you're stupid enough to use it. I think that is a common assumption in this comm - like = use. Not always so.

PS - I agree that Sara and Sarah are different names.

I can't imagine being a teacher when these poor kids go to school with their cracked-out names. Bryrick sounds like a name-smash. Irelin reminds me of Irulan, and somehow makes me feel like it was taken from a book (a quick Google showed that it's a last name, so maybe it's a family name).

From: [identity profile] ciara-belle.livejournal.com
I just assumed Irelin was a bastardization of Ireland. But maybe the family did take it from something else.

I am willing to bet it is. You see a lot of birth announcements for Jerseys/Jerzis these days, and I bet they're not all Polish boys...

Kloie

That is just hideous. Why ruin a perfectly nice name with "unique" spelling?

People really need to stop abusing the "-eigh" spelling and the letter 'y'.

What about Kloweigh?

Elmer Uriel
Izabella Psyche
Jr Cash
Hank Harry
Boden Lake

Those are horrible horrible names. I feel so bad for those kids.

And I am somewhat ashamed to say I like the middle name Blue. I think it's cause when John Travolta had his daughter and named her Ella Bleu I thought it was really cute. Though now that I think about it, I don't know if Bleu and Blue are even pronounced the same.

I don't think Jaymes is that odd, actually...I know a Jayme and a Jayson. While it definately isn't the way I'd pick to spell it, I've seen it popping up a lot more lately.

And Braydon/Braden has been my favorite guys name as far back as I can remember, although I don't like Braedon at all.

The rest are pretty horrible. Kloie???
