Maybe it's location? I don't know, Madeline and Caroline are interchangeably pronounced "line" and "lin" here. *shrug* Actually, the first time I heard of the name Madeline, it was pronounced "lin" so that way just seems natural to me! :)

I have a friend named Madeline and it's pronounced 'lin' at the end. I think it's fair to say you can pick which ending you want to use.

True, but at the same time you can avoid confusion by spelling it "line" for the pronunciation "line" and "lyn" for the pronunciation "lyn"...

But it is not a big deal, especially compared to some other names and their spellings.
