Since everyone seems to love the name Genevieve, I wondered how you all pronounced it.... So?

jhen-vee-EV (ie. the French way...) actually the first syllable of that is really hard to convey because I don't know proper phonetics, but if you can imagine, it's the French pronunciation of "Jean"

i was trying to figure out a way to type it out too.

i this jhen-vee-ev sounds better than jen-uh-veev.

I definitely agree, the English sounds so harsh and ugly to me... no offense everyone else! lol

zhawn-vee-ehv is one way of spelling it phonetically. :) The zh combined produces the sound like "J" in "Jacques."

Yay, finally my fundamentals of linguistics class pays off... in the baby names community. haha

Also, I agree with this pronunciation. I hate the way the American pronunciation sounds, but I believe the French form of the name includes an accented vowel.

up until a few months ago, I always pronounced it "Jen-uh-veev", but I've recently gotten used to the "Jean-vi-ev" pronunciation and I really like it.

JEN-uh-veev in English or zhen-vee-EV in French. I prefer the English.

Jen-uh-veev

Although if I were actually French I'd pronounce it the French way.

I say JEN-uh-veev. But the French way sounds so much better imo (zhawn-ve-EV)

Seems I'm a little odd in this respect...
Jen-ev-EVE, or Jen-uv-EVE
Still the English way, just not JEN-uh-veev.
