Hi there,

My husband and I are expecting a boy in August. We have decided on the first name as being Jack but are stuck for a middle name. The last name would be Rumer.

Currently, my favorite combination is Jack Joseph (Joseph being my Dad's middle name and My Grandpa's name). My husband doesn't like the name because he has a bad association with the name Joe.

The other names to work with in both of our families are: Craig, Terry, Norman, Alexander, Wade, and David.

Which middle names would work best? Should we do two middle names? Let me know which combinations of two middle names would work best.

Also, my sister told me that she would love to name a little girl Alabama. WDYT? I cringed, but maybe I'm in the minority...

i think jack joseph is very nice and love that it is after family. i think your family history trumps your husband not liking joe for whatever reason. its a middle name, after all.

that said, i think something longer sounds better with the short first name and short-ish last name, so if you opt not to use joseph, from your list, i would go with alexander.

I was going to say Jack Alexander, but then I thought the initials would be JAR, and I am not sure that's something you want. (My mom wanted to name my brother Andrew Ian, but our last name also begins with R and my dad vetoed it due to AIR (and potentially Airhead nicknames))

I also like Norman, Jack Norman and Jack Wade.

My initials spell ELM and I've always thought it was really cool to have a working acronym. *shrug*

I like Jack Joseph... and I'm no fan of either name itself. It would be Joseph not Joe. And it would only be the middle name. You should try to convince him. =)
If you do decide to do two middle names you could use Joseph as one and a family name from your husbands side as another.

I'm from Alabama. Just... no. lol. California is a guilty pleasure of mine, though. You could call California Callie, though... well, you could also call Alabama Allie... okay, let me shut up now. lol.

I really like that!

I don't think she should actually name her child Alabama... haha... but if she does, you know can call her Allie now. lol. =)

You're right, Alabama is terrible.

I think Jack Alexander works the best, Jack Alexander Joseph also sounds good.
I really dislike your other family names, so I wouldn't use them unless it's really important to you.

I only like two middle names if you want to honour two people, or there's a partiular guilty pleasure name you can't bring yourself to use in the first name spot.

I can't help but tire of Jack a little more every time I see it. It's been in the number 1 spot forever here in England.

Jack is a common nickname for John, so you could always use John if it would be easier to find a middle name to accompany it.

And Alabama...is a disaster. I think of a little girl beauty queen, with too much make up and bleach blonde hair.

Alabama is a horrible name. I hate place names. Especiallly ones that don't have significance. And even if she does live in Alabama that'd be kind of lame. Like April's born in April.

Jack David Rumer
Jack Alexander Rumer
Jack Wade Rumer

I think I like Jack Wade best, actually.

Jack Alexander and Jack David would be my favorites.

Jack Joseph is okay, but I don't like the alliteration.

I like Jack Joseph ok, (although the nickname J.J. annoys me) but Jack Alexander Joseph or Jack Joseph Alexander is nice too.

I actually think Jack David is my favorite. :)

(And, ugh I know a toddler named Alabama Mamie Lastname and she is a terror. I honestly thought it was a joke when I saw her name written on the paperwork. And you just *know* she'll get Bam-Bam jokes when she's in school!)

Jack Alexander sounds perfect...Joseph sounds nice too but it gives your husband bad connotations then I would just leave it out.
