For a girl.

Thoughts?

Believe it or not! Lol, couldn't help it. In all seriousness, I think the name is too masculine for a girl. The nn Rip seals the deal.

I have no good associations with this. I makes me think of farts for one thing... "rip one."

It's a last name. It's not a first name, and definitely not for a girl.

NO SHE CANNOT. Those girls are going to mock her for having a beard, four legs, and a house carved out of a log.

It's a little too trendy-sounding (not saying it's popular or anything, it just has a similar sound to Peyton and Mackenzie to me). As a boy's name, however, I think it has potential.

How absolutely elegant and good for a lady to grow into! Career professional or caring grandmother, yup, that's Ripley!

I've grown to like this name ever since I saw someone in this community who had named her daugher that - I can't find the post, but she said that her mother never liked the name, and refused to call her daugher by it, so she got some custom clothes made for the baby that read 'my name is Ripley, believe it or not'. Firstly, that story made me love the OP, but it also gave me this image of a really feisty, confident woman with the name.

So, it's a yes from me.

No, in addition to the freak show, it reminds me of the book/movies about the psycho--the Talented Mr. Ripley, etc. So not good connotations.

I will ALWAYS think "believe it or not!" whenever I hear it.

Seriously, my dad's colleague has a daughter named Ripley and the entire faculty was saying "Believe it or not!"

She will be getting that reaction from her teachers and other people a generation or two older than her for the rest of her life... and it's not exactly a positive association...!

Ditto the Talented Mr. Ripley reference.

I like it.

I think of Ellen Ripley in the Alien movies, who was an awesome character.

It's a last name, and I can see it being a problem with "Ripley's Believe It Or Not."

So, no no no.

I'm not sure if I'd believe it, or not
