Boy/Girl Names?

babynamesThere are a few names I like for a boy, 2 of which are Spencer and Avery. However I keep running into people that tell me these are GIRL names. Really?
I've always thought they were boy names. What do you think?
Would it be completely outrageous for me to name my son Avery? I also love the name Sheldon, but everyone says it's super geeky.
I know so many amazing guys with that name though!
