Mar. 17th, 2009 02:57 pmOpinions on Jubilee and Eulalia/Eulalie, please. Also, any suggestions for middle names would be great.
As an edit, I would like opinions on the following name combinations:

Date: 2009-03-17 07:07 pm (UTC)I'm kinda struggling with how to pronounce Eulalia/Eulalie... any help?
J & E
Date: 2009-03-17 07:25 pm (UTC)Those names are a serious mouthful. I would refrain from middle names in this case.
What nicknames are you thinking about?
Re: J & E
Date: 2009-03-17 07:32 pm (UTC)I agree on the middle names thing... these two would be hard to pair with anything else.
As for nicknames... Jubes sounds like pubes, so maybe Billy or just Lee? Eulalia... I'm stumped!

Date: 2009-03-17 07:50 pm (UTC)Jubilee? Don't know.
I'm interested in where these names are coming from. There's got to be some information we're missing here.

Date: 2009-03-17 07:59 pm (UTC)My family and I have a complicated relationship, but I definitely wanted to use a family name. Benita is the name of my adopted daughter, named for her uncle. Eulalia is an old family name meaning "well-spoken." My family has so many problems that can be traced to poor communication, and I -- by coincidence or otherwise -- had an unexplained speech impediment in my younger years. Being well-spoken is an honor in my book.
Eulalia
Date: 2009-03-17 08:06 pm (UTC)And do you really want a name with such a dignified meaning to be shortened to Lally or Ulie? Seems counter-intuitive.
Congratulations on your little one's anticipated arrival.

Date: 2009-03-17 07:49 pm (UTC)Anyway, I forgot to add my suggestions of middle names.
Jubilee... Anna. Marcia. Carla. Faye.
As for Eulalia... well, it's a rather long name, so I'd go for a shorter middle name, such as Jane. I know it's kind of a filler name, but sounds nice. Simone comes to mind, too.

Date: 2009-03-17 07:39 pm (UTC)Eulalia is an old family name, and I always heard it pronounced as "u-la-lee-a" or "u-lah-lya", depending on the dialect of the person speaking.

Date: 2009-03-17 07:21 pm (UTC)These names sound like steroetypical "quirky, southern girl" names you'd find in books like Fried Green Tomatoes and Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood.

Date: 2009-03-17 08:37 pm (UTC)I really like Jubilee, but I think most english-speakers would have a terribile time pronouncing Eulalie/a.
In italian, it would be Ay-oo-LAH-lee-ah, so that could help avoiding the rhyming names, but Euh-lah-LEE wouldn't work at all, imo.

Date: 2009-03-17 09:27 pm (UTC)Jubilee Rachel
Jubilee Rain or Reign
Jubilee Sapphira
Jubilee Victoria
On thinkbabynames.com, it says that Eulalia is pronounced yoo-LAY-lee-AH, which I think is the best pronunciation, and the one I would go with, and the one I'll use with the middle name suggestion. The site also gives the alternate spelling of Eulaylia, which I think would be best, considering the pronunciation.
I know one would think a shorter middle name would work best because it's such a long name for a first name, but I think it sounds better paired with names of 2 or more syllables.
Suggestions:
Eulaylia Ann
Eulaylia Angelique
Eulaylia Christiauna
Eulyalia Gabriella
Eulaylia Marigold
Eulaylia Nikoletta
Eulaylia Violetta
Eulyalia Wilomena
And I know you didn't ask for nick name suggestions, but I thought I'd offer mine.
For Jubilee, I suggest Ulee - "YOU-lee"
For Eulaylia, I suggest Laya -"LAY-uh".

Date: 2009-03-17 09:52 pm (UTC)I think I like Layla over Laya, but I definately like the sound of Ulee. Although, Ulee could be a nickname for both Jubilee and Eulalia, which would be confusing.

Date: 2009-03-17 11:26 pm (UTC)I don't think the middle names given above fit very well with the first names. You're better off with single-syllable, slightly more common middle names, in my opinion.

When are you due, if you don't mind me asking?
