[identity profile] daydream11.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I have a cousin, a fellow church member, and a coworker of my mom's who are all due soon.

My cousin Christine is having her first daughter (her fourth child), Erin Christina. I usually don't like the name Erin, but I love it in this combo. I think the name is gorgeous.

The church member is having a son (her first child!), Jaxon Lamar. Lamar is a family name. She wants it spelled Jaxon because she hates the nickname Jack. (Though, and I hope this doesn't come off as racist, but I can't picture an African-American boy with the [nick]name Jack anyway, but that's just my two cents)

And my mom's coworker is having a girl, who she's dubbing Reason.

WDYT?

I really like Erin Christina.

One of my brothers best friends in high school was Jack... he's the whitest black kid ever, though. Oh and... is she okay with Jax? lol.

Reason? I don't like that.

Funny you should mention it...I live in an area that's predominantly black, so I hear it all (Tyquanesha, etc.) and the other day at the grocery store a father was calling his children Jack and Sarah. I did a double take!

In Atlanta, you meet African-Americans with names all over the spectrum. My African-American co-workers span from Lawanda and Tahija (tuh-hi-yuh) to Beverly and LeeAnn, so Jack doesn't seem very odd to me.

I like Erin, not so much Christina. I hate the spelling of Jaxon, and I don't like Lamar but I understand the importance of family names.

I kind of like Reason... I wouldn't dare use it though.

I like Erin Christina. Jaxon Lamar, not so much. And Reason is very...Puritan.

I love Erin Christina.

I don't like Jaxon Lamar or Reason at all. Jaxon is such a tacky-sounding name and I HATE the spelling...and people will still call him Jack. Reason is just stupid.

Jaxon is such an illiterate spelling though... It just makes the parents look kind of stupid. :-/

Also, I feel bad for Reason. She'll get like Raisin jokes. Or like "Oh, so, you're the reason your parents got married" and stuff.

i think people are still going to call him jack. they arent going to know how its spelled necessarily upon meeting him. too bad for that kid, jaxon is just a dumb spelling. if you dont want your kid to be called jack, dont name him jackson, no matter how you spell it. come up with something else.

reason just begs for taunting.

I hate contemporary names and virtue-based names. So Jaxon and Reason both sound awful to me.

I never liked the names Erin or Christina either.

I don't like the names Erin or Christina on their own, but in this combo it flows really well.
