What are your guilty pleasure names? You know, the names you'd never name a child, but adore anyways?

I've always loved the name Jane, having loved Jane Eyre, but I would simply never name my child that. She'd most likely have "Plain Jane" jokes cracked at her, or she'd be asked where Tarzan is.

Violet. Too colorful for me, but gorgeous. If it werent connotated to a color, I would use it in a heartbeat. And if it weren't too out there, I'd spell it Violette.

There's also Juliet. I would definately use it as a middle name. It's so totally beautiful, even though it reminds me of Romeo and Juliet, which I dont tend to like. But the name seems so strong, yet delicate, and absolutely perfect.

As for boys, I love C's. Cain and Cael are two names that have always that seemed so nice. They are soft and sweet, yet sturdy and strong. However, Cain is though of as Cane, and Cael would be like the vegetable.

I know an Allegra. Her mom is a music teacher. :)
(She was born before the drug went on the market, though.)

I've always loved Scout for a girl and Atticus for a boy, after my two favorite characters in To Kill a Mockingbird. If I can talk the future father of my children into it, I'll probably use Atticus as a middle name (I like it with Luke, my absolute favorite boys' name).

I also really like the name Judith for a girl, but as I detest the nickname Judy and Judith is a little much for a five-year-old, I probably would only use it as a middle name, if that.

Oh and I really like the names Summer and Autumn, but I've vowed never to name my kids after months/seasons/places because I've always thought it was weird, haha.

I have a pet bird named Atticus. I couldn't resist, he is a Finch! He had a sister named Scout.

Mary Jane, as a first name. I HATE that it's a drug. I think it's unbearably cute.

Philadelphia, for a girl. I tend to like classic (but not too common) names... I hate super trendy/made up names and place names (unless they were people names first). But Philadelphia just sounds/looks so nice to me.

Eden: I don't like the overly Christian connotations.
Felicity: My maiden name (Froehlich) means 'happy' in German.
Chloe: Too little girl and cutesy
Scarlett: Scarlett O'Hara!
Rhett for a boy.
Rilla: after a character in an LM Montgomery book
Philippa: Ditto
Maertge: Dutch for Margaret, but I could never do that to a child
Anouk: Another Dutch name

I secretly just adore Bailey for a girl. It REALLY doesn't go with the rest of the names I like, but I can't help it, I just love it!

I really really love Chrysanthemum for a girl. =X

And I secretly like Breckin and Brighton too.. they're just way too trendy sounding for my taste.

I know someone named Chrysanthe, like your favorite, but without the mum!

I love Elizabeth, but it is just too common. I secretly like Chloe</> and Zoe, but I would never ever use them. They are way too trendy/popular right now, especailly where I live-- the trendiest part of Las Vegas.

I like Jackson but doubt I could ever use it. I said I wouldn't use surnames, and it screams surname to me. Plus, it means son of Jack and my significant other isn't a Jack!

Speaking of guilty pleasure literary names, I always thought Holden was a really cool name for a boy, but I don't know if I'd ever actually use it.

Car names...
Portia, Lexus & Mercedes
I'd never use them, but I still think that they're pretty

Jessica - I really like the sound, but I've come across too many Jessicas. Some are really nice and some that I wouldn't want my kid to turn out like
Gilda - Sometimes I think it's an ugly name. Sometimes I really like it because of the movie and it reminds me of Rita Hayworth and glamour.
Nova - I just like it. But it reminds me of cars, PBS and space.
Lucifer - I like the meaning "light bearer", too bad it doesn't have a good meaning anymore.

From: [identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com
Yeah the Lucifer thing is a problem, imo.

What about Lucien? Does it have the same meaning? There are other names meaning light-bearer or light-something though.

Girls ...
Austen - As in the author, who I'm not really a fan of ... oh yeah and it's a boys name!
Tennessee - place names are an overdone trend, have no connection to the state (it's more after the Sugarland song) etc
Sara - it's just so normal
Symphony - uh yeah

Boys ...
Caspian - was my goldfish's name
Felix - because Felix Yusupov is not a good namesake
Iago - or him
Jericho - am not Christian
Ochre - a character in my fave show, well it's his nn of sorts, so yeah bit much.

I'd use Juliet :-)

My guilty pleasure names:

Anastasia- hate the name stacy.. so so so much that i couldnt porrobaly use a name that could be relatied to it in any way
Aurora- This came close to being on the list, but i don't see Aurora being taken seriously as an adult...
Jessica- yes yes it's the number 1 baby name in england at the moment, but i still love it...
Kharis- I hate K names usually, this is a rare exception.

Declan
Sydney (SORRY! I know 47328190478301 of you know grown adult women who wear the name Sydney just fabulously, but to me it screams little girl)
Malaia
Emma

Nice idea for a post :)

Taylor (boy)

I like virtue names. Especially Felicity and Patience. I used to plan out this big family and I was going to name all the kids after virtues. I think the boys were going to be Constantine and Justinian (sort of constance and justice).

I don't know why I thought that was a good idea.

I really like Marie Rose too, but that's a type of sauce.

I also adore the name Etienne but I'd feel weird naming a boy that unless my husband was French.

Oh, and I forgot my historical favourite name:

Lettice

I don't think I'd name my daughter that because people would never, ever pronounce it right, but I think it's pretty. And Lettice Knollys is one of my favourite historical figures.

Whenever I hear it pronounced, it's as "Luh-tees".

I'm just afraid people would pronounce it as Lettuce.

For a girl, Cheyenne. Love the name but I think it sounds a little "trashy." Ditto for Amber. I also love Piper (if you hadn't guessed), but it's a little too "much" to actually use, IMO.

For a boy, Atticus. Atticus Finch is one of my favorite characters of all time, if not my favorite, but the name is just a bit much to saddle a kid with. I'd consider it for a middle name, though. I also love Damien, but alas...the problems with that one should be obvious.

From: [identity profile] glitterberrys.livejournal.com
I also love the name Christian (as well as Christiane/Christiana for a girl), but...I'm not a Christian, so that could be a little odd. A lot of Christian-themed names that I love as well, but wouldn't use for that same reason, like Eden, Caspar and Canaan.

One more I like, but the damn Disney folks ruined it for me: Sebastian

Actually 2 of my best girl friends are named "Amber" (except one spells it "Ambre" ... terrible, I know), and neither of these girls are anywhere NEAR trashy. One is even a devoted Christian who does missonary work all over the world... so for me, I've never put Amber=trashy... but then again, my best girl friend is named "Tiffany Chantelle"... *icon point* haha, unfortunate, eh?

I love Piper too :)

Hee. Yeah, it's weird, every Amber I ever met was a really cool person, but I cannot for the life of me shake the bad connotations.

Nico or Neko, Tennessee, Scout, Rue, Apple, Langley, and Remy. All for girls. Nico is the only one that i might ever use, but probably not. They are all just too..out there for actual use.
