[identity profile] kimberpotamus.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So my baby is due in October but at the moment it's too early to be buying things, so all I can really do is pick names. I have a very Jewish double last name and nothing seems to sounds right with it.

Girls will have the middle name Anne
Arielle (I love the nick name Ari for a girl but this can sound too disney)
Fallon (People keep saying it reminds them of falcon)
Edith (I don't know if it sounds too old)
Eden (Too biblical maybe)
Anouk (Love Love Love)
Galina (Love Love Love)
Agnetha (I have a dear friend with this name so I don't want to steal it
Anneke (Would sound really weird with the middle name Anne)
Malin (Love Love Love)

Boys the middle name hasn't been foud yet and is becoming very difficult.
Micah (Love)
Malachi (I love this but people say it sounds evil)
Max (I love but everyone thinks of a dog)
Elijah (Might be to common)
Milo (Once again people think dog)
Nikolai (Love Love Love)
Sasha (Love Love Love)
Gunnar (Might sound too old/serious)
Rasmus (Love)

I love all these names, some I really love, some I really love right now. But with every name I love there seems to be something about all of them. Does anyone ever find the perfect name? At the moment I'm finding it hard to not listen to my friends and family and their opinions of these names. Did anyone else decide not to use a name based on someone elses opinion of that name?

It is hard not to be influenced by what loved ones say about the names you adore. I understand that "it's your child! Name it whatever you want!" is sometimes terribly hard to follow, but eventually I learned to kind of tune out everyone but my partner on the subject. I take my parents & his partners opinions on board, yes, but ultimately decided on a name my partner and I picked on our own.

People honestly do learn to love the name if they love the person. Don't worry.

i have sworn that we wont tell anyone the names we have chosen when we have a child. that way we can avoid the criticism and negativity and once he/she is born, they cant ruin it since they will be so in love with the baby already. i am making no sense. i just woke up, sorry.

i know an 80something year old woman named edith and a 27 year old named edith. they both ONLY go by edie, which i adore.

i agree with you on arielle, but i am not a fan of fairy princess names and that sounds like one to me.

i love almost every name on your boys list except gunnar, i have never seen the appeal of it, and rasmus reminds me of click and clack from 'car talk' at the end of the show they say "and the head of our working mother supprt team is herasmus bedraggin"

i LOVE micah, max, elijah and milo though. max was my number one boys name until i met my fiance, who has a nephew named max, whom i love but it had to be crossed off the list. i know a girl who just had a milo a few months ago, its the sweetest name, i love it. i dont think of dogs in either case. elijah/eli is simply great.

Malachi - It does not sound evil at all)
Elija

Now with Milo I think of the cat from the Adventure of Milo and Otis, I hate the name Sasha for a boy and Gunner in my opinion is horrible.

I really like Fallon. I don't think any of your names go that well with Anne, but if I had to choose I'd say Edith or maybe Fallon.

The only boy name I don't like is Sasha. I love Micah, Malachi, and Rasmus.

My fav for a girl is Malin
& Micah (Maybe Anthony for mn?)

Sasha in my opinion is horrible for a boy the kid would be teased ungodly.

To me, Ariel and Arielle are two completely different names with different pronunciation. (Ariel is pronounced AIR-ee-uhl...kind sounds like how you would say "aerial", and Arielle is pronounced are-ee-ELLE.) I think Arielle is beautiful, and it doesn't make me think Disney at all!!

I also like Eden, Micah, Elijah, and Sasha (although I wouldn't recommend the last one unless the kid is going to look Eastern European). ;o)

For the girls names, I really like Edith. Edie is a great nickname for it, too. I also like Anouk, and Arielle is pretty nice too.

I love love love Malachi, Elijah, and Nikolai.

It's hard not to listen to other people about names, but sometimes you just have to tune out other people. When I have kids, I don't want to tell other people the name I have picked out, because I think then people have too much criticism and negativity about it. Once someone actually has the name, nobody criticizes it like that anymore.

Oh man, I was going to recommend the name Arianne as an alternative for Arielle since you like the nickname Ari, but that doesn't really work with the middle name Anne. :)

Malin is great. I'd like Max if it was a nickname for a longer name, like Maxwell. Micah and Nikolai are great.

I definitely want to keep the whole naming business between me and my husband, just because everyone in my family has such a diverse opinion when it comes to names.

I love the name Fallon! I think I prefer the spelling Falon though (to avoid her being teased by little 2nd graders). Arielle is really pretty and I don't think it sounds too disney.

For a boy I like Rasmus and Milo.

I love the name Fallon and no one else I know likes it!

Arielle is nice, I don't think it's too Disney, especially if you will be calling her Ari as a nickname.
Edith to me is a little dated, but "Edie" as a nickname is cute.
Malin is nice, but is it said as "MALE-in" or "MAL-in"?

Micah, Max, Elijah, Nikolai are all great names.

I love Gunnar, mainly because of Gunnar of Hlidarend in Njals Saga, but I can't pronounce it properly :(

There's probably never going to be a name that everyone you know loves. You can't please everyone: so when it comes down to it you have to go for what you think.
