Girl Scouts say scout's YouTube ad violates policy

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A North Carolina Girl Scout's plan to use the Internet to generate more cookie sales is crumbling.

Eight-year-old Wild Freeborn posted a YouTube video in the hopes of selling enough boxes to send her troop to summer camp.

But scouting officials said it violated a ban on Internet sales and told her to take it down after she scored about 700 orders.

Freeborn told NBC's "Today" show Friday that she and her Web designer father, Bryan, had honorable intentions and took orders only from their hometown of Asheville. Her father says the ad was just promoting the cookies, so he thought it was OK.

Girl Scouts of the USA spokeswoman Denise Pesich says the organization wants to ensure fairness for all girls and the policy is to protect the girls' safety.

Yes, it says that the girl's name is Wild Freeborn.  Her father is Bryan Freeborn.  I can't even think of anything to say....I'm just sitting here shaking my head. what were they thinking??

I'm one of those rare fans of word names (generally speaking) and Wild could make a cute middle name...but as a first name? With last name Freeborn? Um, no.

I'm not sure that I like it, especially with the last name.

I remember a girl in girl scouts named Stormy. :/

Asheville has a HUGE hippie/wannabe hippie population, so it doesn't surprise me at all coming out of there. I went to college in Asheville, and I can easily see my classmates calling their kids Rainbow and Wild and lord knows what else.

Big Surprise: Wild is Out of Line

Do they seriously think someone with that name is going to obey the rules? Come on, now.

On the topic of internet cookie sales, I'd say she deserves a badge for that project, not a citation. They're something like $4 a box. The national organization could make a ton of money doing that on their own website.
