[identity profile] trashy-crystal.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
hi, i'm very glad i found this community :) i hope you can help me with this.
im looking for a female name starting with "S", preferably of English origin. the baby will be 1/2 British and S names are kind of a family tradition. it's also important that it not have any religious affiliation as well. this is really the biggest hurdle as alot of the names we've found have some connection with Christianity. tyfyt everyone!

The website I looked it up on didn't mention that. I guess that's what I get for leaving a quick-as-i-run-out-the-door-try-to-help-this-person comment. :P

How do you mean, "English"? I'm English and have a Hebrew name: other common sources of names used in England are Latin and Greek.

As someone said above, I think you'll find it hard to find a name that has NO religious links. Can you give us some more guidance on that?

Sarafine isn't a name. If you mean Seraphine then you've hit a very religous name; Serefina come from Seraphim, a band of angels with wings of fire.

I don't see why the name can't have any religious affiliation. Most names are connected to Christianity somehow; even if they aren't technically, there's probably some saint with that name.

Anyway, Susan is probably the most blatantly English name I can think of, and it begins with an S. Some other ideas: Sibyl, Silvia and Suzanna.
