[identity profile] biancasablancas.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

My mother's family is 100% Russian. Here are the names of her siblings, nicknames in brackets. WDYT?
Luba (Lyn)
Alexandra (Shura)
Natasha (Tasha)
Boris (Rob)
Kosta
They all go by their nicknames almost exclusively. My grandparents are Valentina and Victor.

The chef at the cafe I waitressed at yesterday - Zaar. He said it was Russian, an offshoot of Tzar/Czar maybe? I thought it sounded more Middle Eastern.

I love Alexandra, Natasha, and Boris! I wouldn't use Boris on a person, though. Someday I want a cat named Boris. Yes, I'm weird.

I like Valentina and Victor, too.

What a coincidence! I know someone else with a family who has those names.

Poor Kosta.

You never know, right? He's probably got another name now and he could be ANYONE!

Yes, I hope to be creepy. I don't come here that often anymore so it was quite lucky I happened to find your post. Looking forward to O-week?

Boris is a pretty cool name.

Saar is a female Dutch name, by the way...but I think you're right, and he was named after the word 'czar', or something.

I like them all except Boris. I like Kosta especially, but I prefer Konstantin.

I live in Ukraine (it-s near Russia abd former soviet republic) and thus know russian very well. I`ve never herd of a name Zaar and some of names you wrote are usually pronounsed in another way - Konstantin is Kostia Natasha is not a full name full name is Natalia, Luba is also - full name is Lubov, and u know there are a lot of russian names much more popular and interesting/ For example (Stanislav, Jaroslav, - slav names) Klim, Tihon, Arseniy, Artem, Timur, Ruslan, Mikhail (Misha), Dmitriy (Dima), Uriy (Ura)
or for girls Alena, Marina, Lidia (Lida), Olga (Olia), Ulia, Alina, Vera, Nadejda (Nadia it means hope)
And many many others))))
