So my cousin is preggo with #1.  Her sister told me she is hoping for a boy and wants to call him Ian.   It's not my style, but still nice.  WDYT?

I really like the name Ian. When I was younger I hated it, but I like it. which is weird cus I usually don't like three letter names.

I don't like it. But that's mostly because when I was in middle school there was this bully-type person called Ian, so now it always reminds me of him. It's not a bad name in itself at all!

Does she pronounce it EE-an or EYE-an?

I like EE-an better than EYE-an, personally.

Although I'm not crazy about the name itself, every Ian I know is really nice so it has good associations :)

It's my boyfriend's name. I like it... it's classic without being TOO common (at least around here). I hear it's really popular in England.

It's really boring.

My son is going to be Bob- or Bobby, Robby, Rob, Robert... he'll have a bunch of options to choose from, so I don't think it's boring. :/ Technically I'd say it's better than John, since it's the Scottish form of that name lol.

I really like Ian.

Ah, sorry! I didn't mean to offend you or anyone else! Robert is a great name and has lots of variety. I guess for me, boring names are just those that are pretty common, like Jim, John, Jack, Mike, Paul, Joe, etc. Not bad names, just not "exciting." Bob was just the first one that came to mind. :P

It's okay, I'm not offended, just had to stick up for my lil' guy's name. :)

Actually, I think that Robert nn Bob would be kind of refreshing, or at least surprising on a baby. Bob may be common for those of the 50+ age bracket, but not much for under that.

I think it's as bad... lol At least Bob usually comes from Robert, which is a nice name.

I like it! It's a simple, legit name but isn't so common that everyone in his grade will have it as well.

That said, I prefer Ivan. My fiance hates it, though. :(

I looove Ivan if its pronounced the Russian way (ee-VAHN)! I don't like the anglicized version (EYE-vin) though.

One of my best friends is an Iain. I much prefer that spelling, but it's not a name that I feel any which way about. It's nice, but not my style.

To me, it's slightly plain but also honest and nice. No bells or whistles, but nowadays I'd prefer a plainer name anyway :P

I like it, and I think it's actually quite unusual - you don't hear it too often, but it isn't weird for the sake of weird. That said, my current boss is called Ian, so I do have pretty strong associations with that name.
