androgynous names

so my Fiance' and I are having a baby and we are considering carrying on his families tradition of using unisex names, so im wondering what some of your favorite andro-names are.

his Mother is Patty
his father is Kelly
fiance's name is Cary Yon
and his brother is Stacy Adam

we are not sure yet if we are having a boy or a girl... so i would like to hear your favorites for both sexes.

thanks!

Or Casey.

Cassidy and Ashley can go either way. I like both for either. :)

Leslie and Ashley! At one job, I actually only worked closely with two males, and they were named Leslie and Ashley. I thought it was awesome.

you don't think Stacy can go both ways, but you think Elliot can?!
I do not agree with you AT ALL.

Stacy Keach is a fairly well known actor, right off the top of my head. He's far from a prissy girl.

[identity profile] sandtree.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That's ridiculous. There may be a few boys who get teased because they're called Kelly or Stacy, but I'd say almost the vast majority get along fine.

I don't know how you can rant about Stacy and Kelly being girls' names, and then try to claim that Elliot can go both ways. I've never met or heard of a female Elliot in my life. Do you think it's okay for girls to have male names, but somehow not okay for boys to have female names? Because that's kind of what it seems like.

I had a male friend named Stacey, he came out okay. :-)

I have a brother called Kelly so I guess it's a lot easier for me to see it as a males name also.

All of these are very clearly adrogynous and judging by the amount of posts most of us knew that already! I personally know at least one of each from both genders....my favorite bar was owned by a male kelly who was very irish and very much a man

KELLY
Gender: Masculine & Feminine

Usage: Irish, English

Pronounced: KEL-ee [key]

From the Irish given name CEALLACH or the surname derived from it Ó Ceallaigh. As a surname, it has been borne by actor and dancer Gene Kelly (1912-1996) and actress and princess Grace Kelly (1929-1982).

STACY
Gender: Feminine & Masculine

Usage: English

Pronounced: STAY-see [key]

Either a short form of ANASTASIA, or else from a surname which was derived from Stace, a medieval form of EUSTACE. As a feminine name, it came into general use during the 1950s, though it had earlier been in use as a rare masculine name

CAREY
Gender: Masculine & Feminine

Usage: Irish, English

Pronounced: KER-ee [key]

From an Irish surname which was derived from Ó Ciardha meaning "descendent of Ciardha". The name Ciardha means "dark" in Gaelic.

Ryan is my favorite andro-girl name. I also love Riley, though.

[identity profile] awoodnymph.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I love andro names! I grew up a Chris (full name Christina) and I loved it!

Blair is my favorite. Others I can think of (based on people I know): Drew, Blake, Jordan, Morgan, Avery, Elliot, Cameron, Alex, Shannon, Bailey, Brett, Britton, Payton, Dylan, Reagan, Skylar.

Hope that helps! :)

[identity profile] awoodnymph.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, also Ryan and Kyle. Love those. I also know a guy named Kiley!

[identity profile] nothingtolose19.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My little sister's name is Christina, and I sometimes call her Chrissy, but mostly Chris :) that's usually what my parents call her, too. I don't think she dislikes it; I'm fairly certain she'd tell us if she did :P

I was in love with Stacy for a boy when I was in 6th grade. I had just seen an episode of The Dick Van Dyke show where Rob's brother comes to visit and that's his name. Kelly is pretty cool too. It's the fiance's name that I don't care for. I've never been a fan of Cary in any incarnation. You've/he's probably heard it a million times, but his name combo reminds me of carry-on luggage.

I tend to like "girly" unisex names on guys. These could all technically be used for either, but my preference is for a boy.
Dana
Lynn
Robin
Mackenzie (if it's on a boy, it negates the trendiness, in my opinion.)
Lane
Laurie
Terry (m)/Terri (f)
Jocelyn (guilty pleasure...don't know if I would really recommend it.)

[identity profile] hoochiehoops.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The only one I can think of is Kyle. But I like Ryan on a girl too.

[identity profile] soulsplinter8.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't like very many unisex names, but a few I like are:

Morgan
Ashley
Dana
Robin
Jamie
Leander (I know a female Leander, and it's absolutely brilliant on her!!)
Sacha
Aubrey
Devin

I like the name Stacy for a boy... but anyway I think Leslie, Aaron/Erin, Casey, Terry or Jody (thats my husbands name) are good.

Also I work with a lady whose name is Jennings, at first I thought it was weird but Im starting to really like it. as far as girls I like Ryan, Chris, or cameron

[identity profile] i12bmore.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Jennings is a family name on my mom's side, but I've never heard it as a female name.

Loren is another one I like

[identity profile] 0o-faerie.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Casey for girls and Morgan for boys...but I can see them both on the other sex as well.

[identity profile] pythianlegume7.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I generally only like unisex names on boys. My favorites are: Dana, Morgan, Stacy and Leslie. I also am okay with Sage and Quinn. I don't like any of these names on girls though

[identity profile] hoochiehoops.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and Hayden which I love on both!

This was from an article I was reading on Baby naming trends.

"Unisex Names

Unisex names are another trend that is gaining steam. Parents are using names such as Jordan, Madison, Devon, Bailey, Parker, Charley and Logan on boys and girls. However, when naming a baby, parents must consider if it invites potential teasing. Boys are often targeted more heavily than girls. Names in and moving up the top 1000 boys and girls lists include Jayden, Hayden and Riley. "

[identity profile] daydream11.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Blythe.

It's the only decent one, IMO.

When I told my mom about it, with the conviction that it had GIRL written all over it, the first thing she told me was, "Oooohhh! What a great boy's name! It's so strong and masculine!"

And now I think it can go either way.

i love arden and robin. others i like include morgan, jordan, sage, devon, and sidney/sydney. i also really like the names sage and shannon, but though they are technically unisex, i can only see them as girl names. :)

i really dislike the modern unisex names... jordan, morgan, taylor, riley, bailey, cameron, etc.

however, i LOVE casey, jamie, ashley and lindsey for boys.

i also really like kelly on a boy. my brother-in-law is named tracy james, which is super cool, imo.

Morgan and Casey are two of my favourite names ever... for boys. I just can't like them on girls, even thought the Morgan and the Casey I've actually known were female.

I used to like Quinn as strictly a girl's name, but I've recently come around to it as a boy's name. I've known male and female Ashleys, Shannons and Lindsays, and while I prefer Lindsay on a girl, they work on either. For girls, I like Laine, Rowan, Evan and Leighton, though I'd use Leighton on a boy first.

[identity profile] sloane-hd.livejournal.com 2009-02-20 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
My name (Sloane) is unisex, I don't hate it but I'm not crazy about it.

I do like:
Casey

Alex
Noah
Payton (boy), Peyton (girl)
Blair
