My best friend is pregnant with her first child, a boy, and she is dead set on the name Nicodemus. Personally, it's not my favorite. What do you guys think?

It may not be exact, like frog and log, but it's close enough it would cause a lot of shit in the kid's life.

I think you should give her a copy of The Secret of NIMH as a baby present ;P

Nico is a pretty cute nickname- it could be a lot worse.

Sorry but yuck, this is the same thing when my aunt named her daughter Nikita, my mom said everyone is just going to call her Nikki anyways, why not just name her Nicole?

Please disregard the following insanity...

...*ROFL*

Bwahahahaha..haha..haha..

*deep breath* Okay, I'm overtired so I am in a really weird mood and that name is just... not cool. When I was a kid, my parents were strict religious types and we watched this show...*Googles* The Gospel Bill Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gospel_Bill_Show). It's like, a chunk of my childhood. and the deputy's name was... Guess what? Nicodemus!

So to me, Nicodemus is a religious cowboy.

I've sat here and tried to get past it, but uh... it's still a preaching cowboy.

Not cool. At all. In any way. Please, for the love of God, don't.

Convince them to use Nicholas, or Nikolai.

Now, excuse me whilst I go sleep. For a looooooong time.

My dad is in a band that plays this ancient Finnish folk music and their first album is called Nikodemus. I think it was named after a musician who also played the instrument they play in the band. Anyway, I kind of like it but I don't think it's such a good name for a child. What about Nikolai, if she doesn't want to use the more common Nicholas.

I had no idea that it was an actual name; I just thought it was a plant that they used on Smallville ones. That's automatically what I thought of. I don't like it very much, but it's not my kid so all the power to her.

I think Nicodemus is pretty cool. I don't see a problem with it being the kid's first name. If he doesn't like it, he can go by Nico, as others have said. I think it's great to see something that's different but still legit, especially because it still has a good nn option to offset the difference.

I once read a children's story with a dog named Nicodemus in it.

Cody would make a nickname possibility.
