What are your favourite Indian boy names? Preferably names that could be used in North America/western culture without too much confusion.

TIA!

I think this is just silly. A beautiful name is a beautiful name no matter where it is from, and many names have multiple roots. Do you have to be German to name your child Johann? Or Swedish to name them Viveca? Which is also an Indian (Viveka) and a German name btw.

I find it elitist to say, no I wont share my culture with you or my names! Especially when there is so much to share and appreciate.

I'm not Indian, but my great grandmother was and I would not hesitate to use an Indian name on a second child--I am pale as snow with dark hair and dark eyes, my son has blue eyes and reddish hair. Who knows how a second child would come out given my and my husband's genetics.

It reminds me of speaking to an old coworker about baby names once long ago. I had suggested the name Elijah to her and she replied with, "Thats a black name" I was shocked and I find this to be essentially the same.

I hope this doesn't come off as an attack, I know that its easy to be misunderstood on the tubes. :-P

I agree but at the same time, idk...culture and religion go through changes each generation and what about global culture? Pushing ourselves closer to a common ground.

Also, not all children want to carry on the culture/religion of their parents. When choosing a name you're only choosing what you want to call them, not what kind of person they will be.

aw, well good luck :) I know it was hell for us to pick a name for our son that we could agree on. We actually weren't 100% sure what his name would be until right after he was born. When I was too tired to care anymore :P

Here are some Indian names, since I was having too much fun having a discussion and not helping!

Anand
Jeevan
Naveen
Pavan
Rakesh
Ravindra
