[identity profile] biiiitch.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I'm new here! My husband and I are TTC and are throwing names around for our future child. He wants to name our first born "Lyman Scott Robertson". Lyman is his grandfathers name, and Scott is my dads first name and his dads middle name. I'm not completely sold, so I was hoping for some feedback. And, so you know, he doesn't want to use it as a middle name.

For girls, I love the name Grace (so I could call her Gracie), but it's becoming pretty popular. I also love Laila, but have no idea what a middle name for either of these would be. I also do not want Lyman and Laila because I'm not a fan of the names all starting with the same letters trend.

Any feedback would be welcomed!!

Scott Lyman might work. Lyman as a fn is just... not nice. What about making them both middle names?

I like Leila better. Leila... anything that's not a 2-syllable name ending in -a. Margaret, Elizabeth, Zoe, Catherine, etc

Eh, I guess the kid can always decide to go as Scott, or you could call him that? Would that work?

My grandmom's middle name was Leila, it's on my shortlist.

What about Laila Grace? Sounds fine to me.

I second that. Laila Grace sounds great.

Hey, you are in this community too? What a coincidence!

I third it.

Scott Lyman sounds much better than Lyman Scott. And if the kid likes Lyman, he can use it. I use my middle name instead of my first and it's hardly a problem. I don't see why your hubby won't budge on it. :/

You're not alone. Didn't his dad have a middle name?

I like Lyman Scott, it's nice. As for the girl names...

Laila Marie
Laila Marianne
Laila Anne
Laila Jean

Grace Violet
Grace Louise
Grace Judith
Grace Diana

I'll try to think of some others.

I think Laila Grace is really really pretty!

I like Lyman Scott. There is a military academy around here called Lyman Ward, though. It doesn't really seem like a first name... but I think it's great it has a meaning behind it. And I love Scott.

I think Grace is a more popular middle name more so than as a first name.
I like the name Gratia as well... I think it's a nice, less popular alternative to Grace.

Suggestions:
Alaina Grace (I think this is so pretty, plus you wouldn't have a problem with it starting with a L)
Grace Laila
Grace Leona
Grace Lenore

Ana (means favored Grace)
Carissa (means Grace)
Hanna (mean Grace)
Aglaia (one of the three graces in Greek mythology)
Thalia (another one of the three graces in Greek mythology)
Kiley (means Graceful)
Alagracia
Gracia
Lida(means Grace)

Lilac
Lilah
Lilith
Lillian
Lily
Liona

I like Lyman Scott - it's a ageless kinda name, imo.

I second the Grace Laila or Laila Grace suggestion, both sound great to me. Other suggestions:

Grace Julia/Juliet
Grace Elodie
Grace Lydia
Grace Annabelle
Grace Jillian

All of these would work the other way around as well, but Grace is an incredibly popular middle name at the moment and since you want to call her Gracie...but yeah =).

Lyman Scott sounds good, I think.

If it's "Lee-man", I actually love it because he could just be called Lee for short, which is nice. If it's "Lye-man", I can see why you don't like it. If it is prn. as the latter, any chance that your husband would be OK with the same spelling, but with the prn. of the former? That might be a good compromise. Provided you're OK with "Lee-man", over "Lye-man".

I don't think Grace is as popular now for a first name as it was way back when. I think it's still used somewhat more for a middle name. Since you want to use Gracie, I would go with a middle name that starts with E, just cause I like doing things like that: first name plus the middle initial to get a cute nick name.

Suggestions:
Grace Eden
Grace Elaine
Grace Eleanor
Grace Elise
Grace Erin
Grace Estelle

Also:
Grace Bianca
Grace Caroline
Grace Corinna
Grace Cosette
Grace Fiona
Grace Jenna
Grace Juliet
Grace Kathleen
Grace Lizette
Grace Lydia
Grace McKenna
Grace Noelle

As for Laila. I know you don't want match names, but I think sometimes it's cute. Also, for some reason, instead of Laila, I'm thinking Lila, paired with Grace. It's probably been done alot already, but I think it sounds quite lovely.

Laila Abigail
Laila Beatrice
Laila Catherine
Laila Celine
Laila Cerise
Laila Elizabeth
Laila Faith
Laila Grace
Laila Jasmine
Laila Naomi
Laila Rachel
Laila Rebecca
Laila Rochelle
Laila Shiloh
Laila Simone
Laila Soleil
Laila Violet
Laila Zoe
