My husband and I really like the name William but can't call the kid William per his parents' (valid) request. (They had a friend who died...too painful to hear it all the time). Bradford is a family name, but my husband thinks it's stuffy.

So what do you guys think about William Bradford Daniels with the nn Brady from Bradford? Too far of a stretch? I feel like it is cute and still allows us to use the names we like. WDYT?

ETA: Is Brady still really trendy? I don't know, but I don't hang out with a lot of kids or people with kids.

It's cute and all, but why would you name your child something you can't say? If it's going to be upsetting to his parents and you want to respect that, you might just want to pick a different name entirely-- or at least go with the name you want to call him by as the first name.

I know a Bradford and he is dreamy, so I am on board.

So why not Bradford William?

Alternatively, my friend's son is named William but they call him Liam.

Oh, Liam is a cute nn for William! I'd seriously never think of that myself.

I think if you're going to name him William, his nn should pertain to it, instead of being a whole different name (though Bradford is cute). How about the nickname Liam? It's close to William without being too close

because you're not allowed to name him william, how about bradford william? (or is that where the "stuffy" comment comes in?) if you can't call your son william, then why make william his first name?
can you use the nickname will or liam, or is that painful too? (that comment could be read kinda mean--that's not my intent!) maybe just name him liam? i think brady as a nickname for bradford is cute. :)

As others have suggested, why not Bradford William? That way you get to use William because of it's special significance to you because of your grand-dad, and you can still have the nn Brady, or even use Liam from William, I think that would be good too.
