Harper is almost okay, and I find it pretty unisex. However, I think that it is used on girls a lot lately, whereas I'd be more likely to use it on a boy.
Hanley sounds a little too last-namey, but you could use it for a boy.
I'm afraid Harper's becoming too popular, but I love it for girls. I like it okay for boys, but I think it's Paul Simon's son's name, so it's certainly not unheard of.
I think of Hanley for a girl and Harper for a boy. I can't see Harper on a girl at all. Hanley is ok - but I like Shanley better. (I knew a girl named Shanley, pronounced Shan (like shannon) lee)
Adding to the "I hate them both" chorus. :) Hanley just doesn't seem like a name to me, at all, and Harper makes me think of Harper Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird, so it is slightly better, but still seems overly trendy. Harper I think of as a girl's name, although a masculine one, and Hanley I just have no idea.
I would guess that Hanley is a boy, Harper would be a girl. I really don't like Hanley; I've never heard it before, but it's ugly.
Harper, I don't know whether it's actually that bad, I just always assume that people are trying too hard to be cool and using it because of To Kill A Mockingbird. Same with Atticus.
I actually love Atticus too but I dont associate them with To Kill a Mocking Bird. (I know, I'm like the only person in the world who doesnt) Mostly because I've known people with both of these names.
Harper = Reminds me of To Kill a Mockingbird. My elementary school music teacher named his daughter that. I would never use it but I like it. I think it's cute.
Thanks! I probably wont use them either. Not pregnant and dont plan on being pregnant any time soon. Just wanted to know what people thought. Who knows, maybe I'll get a chihuahua and name her Harper...
I LOVE Harper, and think of it as definitely a girl's name, because of author Harper Lee. With all the little Atticuses running around lately, it seems the smart female counterpart (Scout seems overmuch).
