So there is a girl in one of my college classes named Maley. Pronounced exactly like you would think, with the emphasis on the sound "male" in it. Yuck.

Also in that class is a girl named Rebecca. Nice enough name, or so I thought. Turns out it's spelled "Rebbekayh."

What are some really awful names you have run across in your day to day life?

"Rebbekayh" would be pronounced Rebbee-kay to me. Not even close to Rebecca.

Those are quite bad....my country doesn't really allow made-up names or weird spellings, so I don't come across that many terrible names.

But someone my mom knows named her baby "Mania", which i find awful! I mean, it does sound kind of nice...but just...no.

Maley - Maybe it wouldnt be so bad if it were pronounced different. Like Thomas O'Maley from that old Aristocats movie?

No on Rebbekayh. Only really acceptable spellings of this to me are Rebecca and Rebekah. That spellings just to trendy sounding.

I knew a girl names Ladybug. I kid you not. Also know a Hadassah (Hebrew name for Esther) and a Prince.

I've been fortunate enough not to run into too many atrocious names IRL, thank god.

I'd say the worst one is Bryttyne (pronounced like, what else? Brittany). Ughhh.

I knew a girl in middle school who's name was pronounced Toy-lee-kah XP I can't remember how she spelled it though. Her nickname was Toy. Hands down the worst name I've ever encountered.

Some other atrocities include: Sommer, Neferiti (prn Nefertiti), and Myracle (prn. Miracle). I know there's more and I can't think of any!

As a substitute teacher I come across a ton of weird ones all time. The two that stick in my mind are Asiah (pronounced like Asia, but I would never have come to that conclusion had she not corrected me... somehow the "h" on the end makes me want to say "uh-sigh-uh"), and Starneesha.

My brother "went out with" an Asiah. I put went out in quotes because it was online and they never actually met - lol.

There was a woman on "Super Nanny" (I was bored one day, lol) who's son was named Daly - prounounced Daily.

The other kids had interesting names too - but I can't remember them all. She had 6 kids total.

NicQuashia- she's a beautiful young lady but it's so unfortunate that her mother let her father name her that. the fact that she had to spell it out for him is the worst part of that story i think.

The first thing that always comes to mind for this is a boy from my fourth grade class named Koolivarius. Everyone called him Kool...like the cigarette.

I just had a customer named Iron.

Maley could be ok, but there's no saving Rebbekayh.

My cousin Marcus now spells his name Marques and pronounces it Mar-QUES. I used to have a regular patron named Jaymz, and a friend of mine named her daughter Payge.

Thankfully I can't think of any others. :p

I was in the same school with a Pirita for nine years. We were not friends but you know, friendly anyway. Pirita is one of the most horribly ugly names I know. It doesn't help that Piri is a slang for amphetamine in here and all I could think when I hear the name is a song called Pikku pirihuora (Litte amphetamine whore) and I basically want to throw up every time I hear that song so. That's my most atrocious name ever.

We had a lady come in as a guest speaker last semester named LaTornassia. I couldn't believe it. The Professor called her "LaTorie" before she introduced herself, but her slide powerpoint told the truth. :S
