Pronounced "Bro-dah". Wikipedia says that the Gaelic word "brodha" refers to "a flat, level piece of land".

What is a flat piece of land traditionally for? It is where one might pitch a tent or construct a small shelter, if travelling. It is where one might build more permanent structures such as homes, farms, or a township. The right spot to plant oneself for a new beginning -- a place to set down and prepare for the next step in moving forward. It is the stable foundation for all sound things: level ground.

The masculine name "Brodie" (or "Brody") is from the same word, therefore "Brodha" can be considered the feminine form. In more recent times, however, the masculine form has been used in more unisex terms. For one example, please see female musician Brody Dalle (Spinnerette, The Distillers), who took on the name herself.

i may come off as ignorant, but brodha seems like someone making a bad pun on "bro" and "yoda"... while i like brody/brodie better, i still don't really like either one.

It sounds a lot like Rhoda to me, and I'm not particularly fond of either name.

Where are you getting that pronunciation? I'm just curious.

Also, Wikipedia only says there might be a link with Brodie, unless I'm misreading it...

Brody is one of my fave girl's names, purely because of Brody Dalle! I don't like it as a boy's name though, or the variant Brodha :/ It's too much like Brona, which I don't like either because it means 'sadness' lol. I'm too fussy.

Brody makes me think of grody, another word for filthy. I've never been able to seperate them.
