Pronounced "Bro-dah". Wikipedia says that the Gaelic word "brodha" refers to "a flat, level piece of land".

What is a flat piece of land traditionally for? It is where one might pitch a tent or construct a small shelter, if travelling. It is where one might build more permanent structures such as homes, farms, or a township. The right spot to plant oneself for a new beginning -- a place to set down and prepare for the next step in moving forward. It is the stable foundation for all sound things: level ground.

The masculine name "Brodie" (or "Brody") is from the same word, therefore "Brodha" can be considered the feminine form. In more recent times, however, the masculine form has been used in more unisex terms. For one example, please see female musician Brody Dalle (Spinnerette, The Distillers), who took on the name herself.
