[identity profile] ohhhell.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I've got the big u/s in about 2 weeks, where I hope to learn the gender of the bean! Yay! I've got my girl name picked and set, but I'm struggling with a middle for the boy.

I LOVE the name Oliver, so that's going to be the first name. The only middle names I've come up with that don't make me wince are:

Oliver Austen Stene
Oliver Brandon Stene
Oliver Edward Stene

As you can see I'm using Jane Austen for inspiration. Lol. But that's because I just recently reread Sense and Sensibility.

I'm not in love with any of those. I think I have one of those last names that's just... rough. It's hard to find anything that flows well with it. It's pronounced like Green but with a St.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Oliver is my first boy choice! I'm going with Oliver Jude, but I don't think that flows with your last name.

What about Oliver Patrick Stene?

I also like Oliver William Stene, which was posted above.

What is the girl name you've picked out?

Personally, I really like Oliver Henry and Oliver Austen

I think Oliver Henry sounds the best of the suggestions you've received, especially with your last name. It sounds way more natural than your current picks. Of those three, though, I would say Oliver Edward.

I really wanted to name my baby Bennet (from pride and prejudice) but for various reasons it did not work out. But I really like Oliver Bennet though. Fitzwilliam just doesnt have the same ring.

ps- my dads name is Edward Oliver Stephens. I laughed when I saw your suggestions, thats so close.

I prefer Austen as a name but it sounds a bit repetetive with your last name.
Edward would be my second choice, but it might be nice to follow a fairly normal name with a more unusual one rather than another normal one. Do the names have any meaning or are they just names you like? Perhaps you can think of some people you would like to honour by using their first or middle names as Oliver's middle name. Baby's father/grandfather/great grandfather, male friends, etc. I think when a middle name actually means something the flow of the whole name is less important.

I really really like Oliver Austen! I might consider putting Austen to my baby name list but I've already decided to use Elisabeth to honor miss Austen :>) And well, my mother, too (her name is Liisa) :D

Sense and Sensibility is my second favorite Austen book.

Jane Austen and Jane Eyre have made me want to use Jane as a middle name, after I hated the name for so long.

Oliver Edward is the only one that flows well with all three (first/last, first/middle, full name).

Austen and Stene don't go well together. It sounds like you're just stuttering, there.
