[identity profile] sarahness.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So my boyfriend and I have agreed on Amelia for our babe due in June.

I like the name, but I know I'm going to want to nick name her (it's what I do). I'm sure I'll call her whatever *comes* to me, but I'd like to have a couple options to start from.

I don't particularly care for Amy and Mia is out since that's my cat's name.

Anything aside from these two and Lia that come to mind?

Thanks in advance!

Bedelia, since that what everyone else will call her, anyway! :D

Naw, I don't think that book is nearly so popular anymore. Unfortunately.

I know an Amelia and we call her Amel (pronounced ah-MEEL, like the name without the last syllable)

One of my best friends is Amelia and she sometimes goes by Melly and sometimes Amers - pronounced mell-ee and amm-errs.

I don't really see any nicknames for Amelia; I don't like nicknaming with names that are their own stand-alones (like Amy and Mia).

Great choice!

Millie would probably be what I would use.

I love Amelia!

I can't think of any other nicknames other than what's but suggested, but I don't like Amy or Mia, either. If I use the name Amelia I plan to use Lia.

I would definitely use Milly. Lia is also a possibility.

I love Amelia, and I like a lot of the suggestions people have given so far, but here's one nobody has said yet!

I knew someone named Amelia when I was in elementary school, and all of her friends called her Meelee.

Mae/Maisie or Delia would be kind of a stretch... but I think they'd be cute nicknames.

What about Mimi?

I can't think of any suggestions that have not been given yet, but I just wanted to say that Amelia is a wonderful name! And it's the name of my best friend too (well, actually her name is Anna Amelia).

Have you decided on a middle name?

I've always thought Molly sounded like a nick name for some other name, though not sure what, but maybe it could work for Amelia? I know you like Milly, so I thought maybe you'd like Molly too. I like both, though I think with Milly one might think it's a nick name for Mildred, which just screams old lady to me.

Other possible suggestions:
Ina "Ee-nuh"
Mina "Mee-nuh"
Enid
Elsa

I'd use Millie. I love that name. My friend's daughter is Amelia and I always want to call her Millie but I'm not allowed to! (she is strictly Amelia)

Nuh uh, it would so work! Amelia. It might not make the -el sound, but it's in the word! :)

Meily! Or Mely, but pronounced like Meal plus eee like you are saying the second syllable of Amelia and adding "y".
