I was watching the news the other day and they interviewed this kid from a grade school, his name was Phinix.
Why do people think it's cool name their kid after a word and then miss spell it?

I don't know... that reminds me of a kid that went to the daycare I worked at named Oshinn. Pronounced like Ocean, but... yeah.

I didn't even realize it was supposed to be Phoenix at first! I thought it was like Sphinx without the S!

Probably to deter people from thinking the word is actually "Phoenix". Therefore they change the spelling to look more like a name.

I prefer Phoenix myself, but to each their own.

I like Phoenix as a name, spelled correctly, though.

One of the bartenders where I work is named Phoenix. She's from Guyana and she's like 6 feet tall and GORGEOUS. Not sure if I like it as a boys' name though.

When did 'creative' and 'unique' become synonyms to 'stupid' and 'retard'?

I read an article the other day about names affecting career success. It actually suggested that people change the spelling of common names. I wanted to scream. I think the article was on careerbuilder or monster.com, something like that.
