Date: 2006-05-06 05:43 pm (UTC)I don't know about you, but I have yet to hear those names as of 2006. I've maybe only heard, Mae, Gabriel, & Henry.

Emerson (girl or boy)
Heath

Date: 2006-05-06 06:19 pm (UTC)I think "Emerson" sounds more like a girl name than a boy name, but I tend to have strange ideas when it comes to gendering names. Also, "Leander" is too similar to Oleander. And how is "Pres" a great nickname? Just makes me think of "President".
OKAY. I think I like the rest. Except maybe Talise, but I don't have anything to nitpick with that one.
no subject
Date: 2006-05-06 06:28 pm (UTC)Emerson sounds like a last name. Out of the whole list I only liked two names.

Date: 2006-05-06 06:27 pm (UTC)Amelie: Love it. Unfortunately, it's awfully close to Emily, which ruins the appeal for me.
Fiona: Such a cool name.
Gianna: This one is growing on me.
Jozy: Dear lord, no. Spell it JOSIE, however, and we're in business.
June: No doubt we'll see a resurgence in this one. I like it, it's sunny and snappy.
Maarit: Beautiful and different.
Mae: My niece's middle name. Simple and lovely.
Gabriel, Heath, Henry: Nothing new here but I quite like them.
Olivier: Reminds me of the gorgeous Olivier Martinez (the actor from Unfaithful). Exotic and well, yeah. 'Nuff said.
Malcolm, Preston: I've liked these names for a long time.
Stefan: I can't decide if I like this name or if it sounds too snooty for me.
Fun, thanks for posting these! :)

Would have thought Emerson would be seen as a girls name, what with the general surnames for girls trend, and Terry Hatcher's daughter.
Oh and WTF is Jozy?
They are philistines though. There research into the names meanings and origins is rather shoddy. 'Irish' and 'Gaelic' are pretty much the same thing (Gaelic is indeed the native language of Ireland, though last time I checked they spoke English).
Ugh don't get me started on 'Native American'; ooh let's just randomly co-opt a culture* we know nothing about it what so ever, in the name of fashion. To hell with them being offended it's not like we cared when we stole their land and all.
Not that anyone else would actually give a damn, because being zomgkwel is obviously the most important thing ever.
*it's not even that, Native Americans identify as tribes with their own languages and cultures. So I interpret 'Native American' as I would 'European' (though find the former more offensive, even though I'm British)

Date: 2006-05-07 11:45 am (UTC)I just can't see them getting very far. Gianna is a pretty name though. Jozy is supposedto be Josie, only spelled "cool". I honestly think I could make a better list of "cool names of 2006".
no subject
Date: 2006-05-07 01:17 pm (UTC)I don't think those names are 'cool' or will become popular per se, they simply represent general trends (creative spellings, 'Celtic' inspired choices, old fashioned names etc) that are/will.
