[identity profile] ex-crissy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I am pregnant, and have zero names yet for the baby.

What do you think of Edie for a girl? (EE-dee) of course.

Fiance and I saw it on television last night, and we both thought it was cute.

I think a lot of people will pronounce her name as Eddie. I think it'd be cute, but only if it was spelled differently.

I would say Eddie also.

Yeah, it's too cute. Too cute for a full name, anyway. I think it's usually a nickname for Edith.

I just automatically thought Nicolette Sheridan, Edie Britt on Desperate Housewives. So not a good character to be associated with. It works on her, but I can't see it on anybody else above the age of like, fourteen.

I didn't even think of Edie Britt. I've been watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show so my first thought was Edie Grant.

I love it, it's one of my favorite names.

Cute on a kid, but looks as if it's short for something. Needs a grown-up name too.

I use it as a nickname for Meredith. It's not "normal" so i'll explain...
My daughter is haley meredith...the meredith is after my grandma who is "Edith" so we sometimes call my daughter Edie as a nickname. lol

so in short, i think Edie is cute but i'm not sure how it would 'age'

I looove it as a nickname for Edith or Eden.

It's quite cute I suppose, but I've never known an Edie under the age of 60. It's very old-ladyish to me. I also agree that it sounds like a nickname, but the obvious full name would be Edith and I think that's horrible...

I like it a lot.
But a lot of people in here wont diverge from the Lilly Grace Bella shit, so don't expect too much enthusiasm .

OR some of us have Grace in our top five and like Edie too! :) Of course, Eleanor is also in our top five, so.

I like Edie a lot as a nickname, but not as a given name.
I think Evadne is fantastic (though, it might be too 'out there' for some), and Eden is nice as well, both lend to Edie as a nickname. I really like poohbaby's use of it as a nickname for Meredith too- very sweet!

I love it, but I think it's better as a nickname, possibly for Edith?

I like it, I'd be REALLY surprised if people thought it was pronounced like "Eddie", and I think it can stand on it's own. Not all names need to have the proper name and then be nicknamed. If you like it, I'd say go for it :)

It's cute, although I agree with others that it would probably be good to have a more formal name.
I definitely don't see an issue with pronunciation either, it seems pretty obvious to me.

It's a cute enough nickname. What are you intending to actually use as the proper name?

I like it, but would prefer it as a nickname for something, just so that the kid had options of having a more formal name.

I agree with most of the posters above... it's cute as pie, but not sure how it would age. It does sound like a nn and not a full name... but I'm not a fan of Edith. If you like it as it is, go for it.

If you like Edie, have you thought about Evie? I know someone called Evelyn with the nn Evie. I also have a cousin who is just Evie.

My great aunt's name is Ede, nn Edie. I really like it.

When I hear Edie, I think, "I'm not aware of too many things / I know what I know, if ya know what I mean..." (not a bad thing.)

I have to agree, it's a pretty cute name. Not my naming style, personally, but I like it.

I love it. I knew a little girl named Edie who would be about 4 or 5 now. It was short for Elizabeth.

i dont know, everyone else seems to think Edie is more of a younger name, but i actually view it as more of an older name... ala Big and Little Edie. (You know, the story of Jackie O's wacko relatives who rotted in Grey Gardens?)

To me, it's kind of old sounding and i dont like that it's very close to looking like Eddie, a very masculine name.

but, of course, thats just me.

I really like it. It's short and cute but doesn't feel like a nickname. Question: what were you watching that it was in?

i think edie is cute, but it sounds very childish to me. i like eden more..she could always use edie as a nickname and maybe use eden when she got older.
