We just found out my sister in law is pregnant! *super excited*

She likes the name Waleed for a boy, but I'm not so fond of it. 0_o
She says she likes unique names, so I thought I'd come and ask here.

What's your favorite Muslim/south asian name? boy or girl?

thanks! =]

Waleed makes me think of Wall-E for obvious reasons. I actually kind of like it though.

For some reason I thought a religious rule existed that all Muslim boys had to be named some version of Mohamed. Aren't there 99 different choices? Is Waleed one of them? Maybe that's why she likes it?

I realize that not all Muslim men have the same group of names, but you wouldn't know it where I teach. We have a significant Somali population and nearly all the boys I've taught had Hassan, Mohammed, or a name starting with Abdi, for their first and/or last names. Last year, there was a Mohammed Mohammed in each of grades 3-6. The girls had far more variety, though I've had a couple Halimas.
