Boy, it was the name of the rat in Ratatouille.
Also, behindthename.com says it's a masculine French name.

a kid in my art class is named remington and he goes by remy. (can we call her thirteen? teehee ;] ) i like remy for either, honestly.

i will say that the "y" in jane totally takes away the sweet and sophisticated feel of the name that i love so much. please no! :(

I know it was a boy's name first, but the only people with this name I've ever known/heard of have been girls. I don't love it, but it's okay.

A guy friend of mine is named Remmick and we call him Remy. I actually like Remy as either a girls' or boys' name though.

Like the 13 reference earlier, Olivia Wilde's character on House is named Remy. Also, the baby name book I had lists it as a girl's and boy's name both. I think of it as going either way.

Boy. I'm not an X geek or anything, but that's the first thing that pops in my head when I hear that name. :/

I always think of Remy as a boy's name, but I do know one female Remy. I like it better on a boy. I think it is simple and masculine, all around nice. :)

Also; love Jane and hate Jayne. The superfluous "y" just ruins it for me.

No, no, Remy is boy.
There's an old cartoon that runs around Europe, of a boy named Remy looking for his family

the only remys i know are the god awful rapper (female) and the alcohol that i think she got that stage name from. double awful but on a boy i don't have such bad connotations. sometimes i think it's a question of whether or not it is an abbreviation and if it is an abbreviation then what's the full name.

Both. I'm pretty sure that it is a boy's name, but I can see it on both. Remy Jayne, too many Ys.

Remy is definitely a boy's name to me. If used on a girl it wouldn't be awful, though. Remy Jayne has far too many y's in it.

I've never known a Remy, but I've read two books with Remys and both were female. In one, it was short for Rembrandt.

I love the name Remy,
I've read a book ["This Lullaby" By Sara Dessen] With a girl by that name, It wasnt short for anything.
Also My friends husbands name is Remington and he uses Remy for short, which I absolutely love love love.

I would probably go with it as a girl name if it isnt short for anything though.
