I really love the name Max. The only problem is I don't really like any of the names that include Max as the nickname! (Maximilian, Maxwell, Maximus...). Can you think of any others? Or do you think Max is able to stand on its own? I'm just not sure...

Thanks for any help!

In my opinion Max can stand on its own.

There aren't any other Max names that I can think of.
It's definitely fine as a stand alone name, my brother is just a Max though he is nicknamed Maximus.

this is probably a regional answer, but i'm in italy and a lot of the "massimo"s go by "max". borrowed nicknames are really popular here at the moment.

I'm like you- I love the name Max, however, I would want him to have a more "grown up" name rather than just "Max" when he's an adult...and I don't really like any of the full names either... :\

hehe, when i was a child i always wondered what my "grown up" name would be. my name is jennifer and i thought that was just not suitable for an adult. no one understood what i meant as a kid when i asked about it.

I'm not a fan of the name *at all* but my grandfather's name was Max Alexander and I always thought that flowed together well.

I make an exception for Max, I think it can stand on its own.

I think Max can stand on its own and ages well.

The only Max that I have ever known was named Marcus.

I was surprised when I found out that that's what it was short for, and it took me like, ten years to find out. But that's just what everybody called him. Teachers, parents, friends.

I prefer Max as a nickname for something, but I think it's used quite often as a stand alone, so it's definitely not as bad as using something like Bobby as a stand alone, where it's ALWAYS a nickname.

I had a friend with the last name Lomax...I thought that would make a cool first name.

My brother was Max Edward (Oct 1995-June 1996)

Max seemed to work fine on its own.

I think it's an okay stand-alone name. Most people I know named Max are just named Max.

Maxim/Maxime (both pronounced Max-EEM) are great ones, especially if you're a hockey fan. :)

Haha, when I saw "Maxim" my first response was "Kuznetsov"! Which goes right with your comment about hockey fans :).

Besides my favorite, Maxim, there's also:

Maxfield, and Maxton.

I think Max is best as a nick name for something longer.

You could always make one up. Lol. Be creyative?

Maxton (reminds me of a Maxi-tampon) lol
Maxley
Maxington
Maxen
Maxien
Maxer
Maxiven
Maxely
Maxeley

Lol. Most of these are pretty unusable. =P
But its all i can think of.

Max seems fine on its own though. Give him a "propper" soundin middle name, like Alexander or Charles or Edward and he'll be alright.

This made me laugh because I work with someone named Max and one of the other works was coming up with "nicknames" for him and said Maxi and then said, "Maxi Pad!"

If you love the name, then it can stand on its own.

I knew someone once whose nickname was Max. His full name was Michael Anthony Xavier Surname. Perhaps try something like that?

Sorry this is so late.

I agree that Max is a better stand alone name than any 'Max' names. There's always Maddox, MacKenzie, etc that could have the nn Max.. not that I'd use them personally..

:)
