Excellent! I was hoping someone would know the proper French pronunciation. I like it said Ah-may-lee best actually. Most people here is Australia refer to the film as A-ma-lee which doesn't really sound right.

Then I doubt he was French. Or he was attuning to the anglophone pronunciation.

Yeah, he may have spoken it but I'm not sure that he actully WAS French at all...and he definitely had to know he wasn't pronouncing it the French way. I think perhaps it was just easier, since he had to say it an awful lot. XD

Ah-may-LEE if we are pronouncing it the French way, and I love it. There is also a German name Amelie without the accent and it is pronounced slightly differently--not quite sure how to explain it, but it's pretty different.

I am guessing the é tells you to pronounce it that way . For interests sake, how do you pronounce the name Bénédicte? We're in Australia and this is my little sisters name. We leave off the accents because no one here knows how to use them. We say the name Ben-ee-dicte
