Oy. There's a name I've liked for awhile and I only just now paired it in my head and out loud with my (newishly) married name.

Helena. Helena Hand. And her stripper name will be Helena Handbasket.

Hrumph. Still might use it.

How are you saying it? If you're saying hell IN uh, it's kind of awkward. I always pronounce it huh LAY na, so it doesn't sound so weird.

I think it's also a question of how other people say it, too. The most common one (that I hear, anyway), is the former, although I like the latter better, personally.

I'm from upstate New York. It might be more of a redneck thing then, because that's how EVERYONE around here says it. I even say it that way, and I know better!

Hahahahahahahahaha.

I love Helena, so it's too bad it has that connotation!

Haha, i didn't get it. No teasing from thick skulls like me!

Anyway, I say go ahead and use it anyway. She's going to get crap for Hand, anyway and there's nothing you can do about that. My kid's going to get crap for my newly married last name, too, so I pretty much saw that as free reign to name it whatever I wanted without worry. Helena's pretty, and "Helena Handbasket" shouldn't stop you from using it; kids will make fun of each other for the stupidest stuff.

My number one choice for a boys name alliterates with our last name. I can see why you have reservations about using Helena Hand, but I think it's pretty. :)

Ugh, I wouldn't have wavered back and forth so long on whether to take his name or not if it wasn't such a stupid name, or if mine was any less equally stupid.
This made me LOL. Brown-Hand IS pretty spectacular.
