[identity profile] the-good-ship.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Now I may be a tad bias as I'm not too fond of "unique" names, but still I'm sure even those of you who do will agree that this person is OTT.

So OTT it makes me wonder if they are for real
. However we've all seen the lists of birth announcements various people post in this community, and many of those have names just as bad or even worse, so who knows?

"What do you think of these names? Don't answer if you don't like unique names.?

So I'm only 19 so not looking for babies anytime
But I have a very unique style of names, some I just made up on my own.
I want my kids to have their own names, not someone else's. And I tend to like stereotypical boy names for girls.

I don't spell them different because I want them to be unique, most that are spelled "weird", I just don't like the way they're spelled.
My name is Katelyn, which isn't that unique but most people spell it different.
I've been called Catherine and Cat-len in school and a lot of my friends names are spelled differently and they were always called something weird but it gives you stories to tell and something to laugh at. I'd rather my kid get called some messed up name than their name just be Mary and be too easy and original.

And the reason Kailybe is spelled that way is b/c I like the name Kaile and then I just added "ib" which is ybe to get Kailybe, so it's a combination of 2 names and I like names ending with ybe and yne. =)

Before anyone says anything about the name Jurnii...I doubt I will name my kid this b/c it's my sister's name, it's spelled Journey though.
But she spells it Jurnii on like myspace and facebook and stuff and she likes it better that way.
I guess my family just likes to spell stuff weird? Idk.
Thanks for nice comments though =)

I’ve never seen anyone named Kirstan, and it’s not KIR, it’s KEER.
Ryan Star, American Idol…Girl.
Never heard Raileigh as a boy, in the show So Little Time, Mary-Kate Olsen’s name is Riley
Reaghan is a girl’s name.
Spencer is a girl on the show South of Nowhere on the-n
Tatum is a girl’s name.
I am a hick soo Texas would fit I guess.
Boys are George, not Jorgie and I know a little girl named that thanks.
Gracelyn is not made up:
http://babynames.com/Names/name_display....
Kaydence, I hate C’s.
Never heard of a boy named Madison.
Peyton is a girl on One Tree Hill
I would probably kick a kid in the face if a boy was named Addison, that’s deff a girls name
Tell that to Hayden Panettierre.
Acelynn:
http://babynames.com/Names/name_display....
Kameron Kole…I HATE C’s they look like old lady names
It’s Kayle not Kale, Kay-le, not Kale. You say the Y.

Tatum: http://babynames.com/Names/name_display....
it's a real name dumbfuckk.
Anyways, to all the people who say I don't spell the names "right", there is no correct way to spell a name. All names are made up at some point. Did the person who made up the name Sophie get laughed at because they put a ph instead of an F? And now look how common it is. I know 3 other Katelyn's and one is Katelyne another is Katelynn and the other is Kaitlin. Which one is right? Because if you look them up you can find all of them on baby name sites.

Thanks everyone who wrote supportive, non rude comments, even if you aren't a fan of my names!"

Edit: Just to make it absolutely clear, this ISN'T MY list. I am not a fan of these names.

I think a lot of the names have too many extra letters and make for an unattractive look. I personally like K better than C too, but sometimes it just looks off.

If I saw Raileigh I'd assume it was Ray-lee.

I just hate Tatum, unrelated to all the other stuff~.

edit: I just read that a little closer. XD; Edited appropriately.

No, I'm 19 too, I don't have any names like that! It's not an age thing, I swear. It's just a "she's crazy with bad taste" thing.

I'm a 15-year-old sophomore in high school, and my favorite names are nowhere as crazy as hers! I'm a tradtionalist to a fault, but I appreciate true originality when I see it, and this isn't it! -_- She gives us young baby name lovers a bad name, ugh.

Case in point - at this moment, my future children will have these names:

Emeline
Lydia
Jane
Alice
Camilla
Violet
Zelda
Catharine

Henry
Jude
Simon
Arthur
Theodore
Blythe
Nathan
Caleb
Gabriel
Seth

Pfft... this 19-year-old just has bad taste.

And, oh yeah, she asks people what they think of the names, then says she only wants to hear positive comments. Another sign of immaturity.

Trying to be positive... I think many of these names are acceptable if spelled correctly (ie without the unnecessary 'y')

I like...
Ryan (guilty pleasure on girl)
Spencer (only on a boy)
Austin (only on a boy)
Tatum (another guilty pleasure, although I prefer on a boy, nn Tate)
Emma
Gabriella or Gabrielle
Addisyn (but only spelled Addison and ONLY on a boy. I wouldn't let her kick my son!)
Cameron Cole (with the old lady C's)
Nathan (only this way!)

Addison AND Madison are BOTH BOY NAMES. Anything with SON, in fact, is MASCULINE in origin. Madison I've learned to accept but I HATE seeing a girl named Addison. Drives me nuts.

Well, 'Alison' isn't masculine in origin. Just gotta say. :P

Some one caught me on this one a while ago... It had always confused me

Apparently, Alison is the one exception to the rule; it derives from "little Alice" rather than the "son of" names...

ETA: Come to think of it, it may have been you who set me straight on that... and reading you comment again, I now understand what you were saying... Reading comprehension FTW!

Actually, it does mean "Son of Alice" by word origin.

It has morphed over the years, however, based on many name origin websites.

Date: 2009-01-14 01:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sandtree.livejournal.com
Sorry, but those many name origin sites are wrong. They're all basing 'son of Alice' off websites and probably originally baby name books that also have it wrong. Alison looks like 'son of Alice', so they just assume that it is without bothering to do any research.

Alison was a nickname for Alice. If you actually break it down, it's 'Alis-on', not 'Ali-son'. 'on' is an ending that makes a name into a nickname, like 'Manon' for 'Marie'. Eventually 'Alison' was used as a name on its own, but there are plenty of Medieval texts where Alison is either used as a nickname, or used interchangeably with Alice.

Oh my gosh, I like, missed the first part of the post and I thought that these were all your names and I couldn't believe all the comments that were talking about like you weren't going to read them. Okay, now I feel free to say what I really think.

I like:

Spencer
Tatum
Austin
Hunter

And the rest are all effed up. Like, if I weren't attempting to be somewhat politically correct here, I'd have a few other choice words for those names and that person.

Yeah, not a fan of...many of those. Especially not withthose spellings...

But I don't see it and think it must be a made up list, because they really aren't too far removed from the names people actually give their kids. Quite a few, even the ones I really dislike, probably wouldn't even cause the kid in question too much trouble, given how many Kre8tyv names there are out there.

My favorite parts were

and

I would probably kick a kid in the face if a boy was named Addison, that’s deff a girls name.

Also, I love how Gabrielle, Hope, Madison, Austin, and Hunter made her self-proclaimed "unique" name list. Oh, my god, Emma's out of kontrol krazee! Somebody stop her!

Ugh those names just look... ugly to me. Ugly spellings for (largely, imo) ugly-sounding names is just a recipe for fail. I think I might even be starting to dislike the letters K and Y now.
