[identity profile] dolcedaze.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I know that the top 1000 Social Security names are released every May for the previous year, but does anyone know when in May that list usually comes out? I'm having a baby in late May/ early June, and I'm going to be so angry if the names we picked have made it onto the list. I want to see it now!!!

ETA: I'm glad you all like the names or think I shouldn't worry, but if anyone knows the answer to my question I'd be very grateful :-)

Why would you be that angry? Because you want a unique name?

Pick a name because you love it. Top 1000 SSA names shouldn't matter!

Congratulations! What names have you chosen? :)

Uh no idea of the exact date, think it tends to vary.

I tend to err toward uncommon names myself so totally understand. Even so us 'name-nerds' overanalyse these things a bit. Names usually have to be in the top 50-100 before you start noticing them as a trend IRL. Top 30 for there to be others in their class with the same name. Even then there is a lot greater variety of names being used and the top names aren't as common place as they used to be.

A name isn't going to make a massive leap in just one year, particually if it's not in the top 1000 to start with, so last year's list should still be pretty accurate.

Yeah I went to look at the SSA page and I typed in a bunch of years. Pretty much Michael is the most popular name of all time. It's 1 or 2 like every year from 2004 to 1966 (didn't go back any further, but I can imagine it's still there...).

I like your names--they're a little too unique for me, but I think they sound like you've put a lot of thought into them.

I think you'll be good. Both are used enough to be known, but I would say FAR from popular. The popping up thing is strange, I notice when I focus on a name more I hear it more often, but it's not really being used anymore, I'm just more apt to notice. They are good choices and I think you'll be ok in the 'not over-used' dept, so don't sweat it, and good luck!

Out of interest, what are the names you've picked?

With those two names you should be fine. They're both not very common. I love Eloise, by the way :)

Don't go by number alone, look at how many times a different spelling was used too. Like I noticed that Caden, Kaeden, Cayden etc. were all on there at lower numbers, but if you factored in that they were basically the same name - it was much more popular than liste - understand?

But I saw your names you picked and I wouldn't worry. They are very unique and if you love them, use them!

Last year it came out on May 8th, I believe, so I'd imagine it would be sometime around then. So a week or so, maybe?

I am in love with Eloise Aurelia, i hope you have a girl just because!
It's one of the most beautiful combos i've heard on the board.. given to a 'real baby' (you know how most combos are just wishful thinking...)

I believe it comes out on Mother's Day.
