[identity profile] atouria.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My brand new baby boy was born on New Year's Day at 11:57 pm.  He was born at home, in the water, and in the caul!  I've posted about naming him Oliver before, but my husband isn't sure about the name.  Does anyone have any suggestions for us?  The babe is a capricorn.  Does the 'new year's baby' have any name myths or legends associated with it that we could maybe pull from?  I'm going to google it, but would love to hear your ideas.

ETA: His older brother is named Aidan Trace.  I'd like something less popular this time. :)

Well, looking up Capricorn, I find the animal associated with it is a goat. I looked up names with goat as a meaning and other than the name Giles/Gyles, found nothing good lol.

I found a list of words associated with Capricorn.

Ambitious
careful; conservative; constant
disciplined
humorous
patient; practical; prudent
resourceful
tenacious
wise

Using those words to search for in name meanings, I found these names:

Trevor: prudent

Also, it's element is earth. Using earth for meaning. I found the following names:

Adam - earth/of the earth
George - earth worker
Joran - earth worker

It's stone is the onyx, which some might consider for a first name but most might only consider it for a middle name.

Not alot to go on, but because I don't mind twisty things like this, I was thinking what about Trevor Adam (The reverse letters of your son Aidan Trace.
I also like Trevor Joran with the possible nn of T.J.

I don't know if it's unisex at all, but Nova means 'new'. I found Newlyn on a coupe of sites that say it means 'new year'. I think that Capricorn actually is a name, but I would never suggest it.

Janus, I just read, Roman guardian of doors who gave his name to the month of January.

First of all, congrats about the home/water birth. That's the way I hope to have my future babies!

According to behindthename.com, Navin is a masculine name meaning “new” in Sanskrit.

I also like Colin, but from experience I strongly suggest putting a second L in there. I went to school with a Colin and he was CONSTANTLY being called "Colon" as in the organ. That was way before Colin Powell was around too.

Collin is great, though. Congrats on your New Years Baby!

:) I wasn't laughing at the suggestion, I was just laughing because it gave me memories of that story. I had forgotten it existed!

I don't think the year of the ox technically starts until 1-26, so it's still the year of the rat.
