I *heart* this film!

I'm currently watching The Princess Bride, which is obviously amazing, and thinking about the name Buttercup. I don't think I could in good conscience use it as a name, but I'm interested to know everyone's favourite flower names.

Poppy. I think it's cute and sassy, but I can't see myself ever using it on a real child. :P

My mom was pregnant with me when she read the book, and I was a baby when the movie came out, and she has called me Buttercup ever since (like, started calling me that before I was born and still does almost 22 years later). It's kind of annoying, but cute.

However, I am eternally grateful that it is NOT my real name.

Flower names:
Lily
Rose
Violet
Calla

I like Violet, which is going to be my daughter's middle name.
I like a lot of flower names but I wouldn't use any on another child cos that's kind of overkill.

I like Lavender and Rose.

There's also the names that sound like, or are derived from, flowernames, but are more traditionally namey - like Lillian and Rosamund.

Rose.

I didn't even know there were this many flowers/plants...

I really like Violet. I also adore Laurel, but it's not technically a flower.

I love Violet and Lily/all its variants.

Marigold is becoming a guilty pleasure. I'd never name my child that in real life, but in an alternate universe I might. :)

I love Princess Bride, too! Buttercup is pretty and cute, but a bit much for a real person. Actually, when I hear it, I think it sounds like a good name for some sort of animal, like a cow.

Poppy. I think that it's the only flower name that I actually like. Oh wait, Violet, but I like Poppy a lot more. Lily and Rose are both on my least favourite list.

Daisy and Marigold, but I'd prefer it to be Mary Gold, that's my biggest guilty pleasure.
I also like Ivy and Jasmine, but the latter was forever ruined by the birth control pill.

Clover, Poppy, and Ivy :D

Poppy, Daisy, and Rose. All more likely to be used for animals than people though.

In my area there is a clown named Buttercup. LOL

Love Daisy, Rose, Lily, Camellia, and even Acacia. :)

I love a lot of flower names, especially Rose and Violet. There are very few that I dislike, actually.

One that's kind of a guilty pleasure name for me would be Lilac.

Rose
Violet
Lavender
Lily

Also: Laurel and Ivy

My best friend is Holly, her sister is Ivy and a third girl would have been named Heather. It was because their parents liked those names, not because of the foliage.

i know sisters named holly and ivy too! except they have a brother named thorn.

Thorn... not too far to go to call him a prick. Bad choice mom and dad.

Lilly's my favourite name. :)

I also like Violet, Ivy, Dahlia and Poppy.

[identity profile] minga13.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
I like Rose

[identity profile] kilobites.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose I like Rose and Violet and Lily, as far as popular flower names go, and then as far as lesser used ones, I like Poppy, Ivy, and Dahlia.

[identity profile] searlait.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
And Poppy.

[identity profile] searlait.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
MAGNOLIA

I keep forgetting all of my favorite floral names.

[identity profile] roseofjuly.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I like Lily, Lila, Rose/Rosalie, Violet/Iolanthe (it's the French version of Violet), Jasmine, Dahlia, Holly, Iris, Linnea (I had a friend in college who spelled it Lenneia, which I think is pretty), Heather, and Poppy.

I also like more obscure flower/foliage related names and ones that are only related to flowers: Jacinda, Jessamine, Amaryllis, Angelica/Angelique, Narcissa, Camellia, Delphine, Chloe, Samantha, Kalina, Leilani.
