May. 2nd, 2006 03:24 pmHi! I just joined this community, because it looks ilke there are some interesting discussions that go on. I love baby names, I used to check the books out from the library starting back in junior high. I have a small collection of the mini-books you can buy in supermarkets, and a couple "real" books from used book/thrift stores. I play The Sims 2 so those come in handy.
Mara Jade
Alice
Owen
Aimeric
My number 1 name for a girl is Mara Jade, because I'm a total geek and that is my favorite Star Wars character. That's as a first and middle name, not a double first name...so, most people will only know "Mara", and even those who know her middle name won't necessarily realize she's named after a science fiction character.
Number 2 for a girl is Lacy, but I also would like to name a daughter after my grandmother, whose name was Alice. So I was thinking legally naming her Alice and using Lacy as a nickname, which I think works without being too much of a stretch. I waffle around on middle names, sometimes I think of Claire, because I had a grandfather named Clarence - so it would be a tribute to him and that way I cover both sets of grandparents.
Which is important, since one of the middle names I like for a boy is Trygve, which is again a family name, from the same side as Alice. I am thinking Owen Trygve. I really like Owen Henry - but then you have O. Henry, and that would be bad.
Last is the name Aimeric (roughly: Ah-mehr-reek), which is a French name. I think it would be okay and not result in too much teasing for a kid because it would be very simple to shorten it to Eric (even if the pronounciations don't quite match). That one is hard to find a middle name for.
I also really like the name Harry James, but I kind of think that's Harry Potter's full name, and that I won't do to a kid. And speaking of HP, I adore the name Sirius, but I really, really wouldn't do that to a kid.
Oh, and my own name is Katherine Anne. I've gone by Katie (when I was little), Kate (junior/senior high), and Kat (senior high/uni). I'm now mostly Kat, although I often feel like it doesn't really fit me.
I am just about to leave work, so I don't have any long lists like I've seen other people post, but maybe some other time.

Date: 2006-05-02 02:23 pm (UTC)I don't like Mara Jade because I have bad memories attatched to Mara, but if I didn't I would probably like it.
Alice Claire is beautiful.
I love Owen, and Owen Henry, and don't get the bad connotations behind O. Henry...? Trygve I have no idea how to pronounce so I won't even try.
Aimeric I don't like so much. It doesn't look good written or sound nice to me.
I know a boy named Harry James (born before the books). I like Harry, not so much James, and I know he is teased just because of his first name.
