Okay, I feel kinda crazy for even considering this name but it's STUCK in my head. I feel like I'm having a girl (and have my perfect girl name picked out) so maybe it's a moot point, but I need some opinions from the experts. ;)

Vladimir.

Is this name too... vampirey? Gothy? Pretentious?

I kind of love it.

And for those of you who don't think it's bad, any good middle name suggestions? Because I'm drawing a blank.

Well... I don't think it's a good first name. It has a lot of connotations, and if your child is cheery, sweet, etc., it won't exactly be an appropriate name. Kind of like an atheist named Faith, haha. I'd think some more about this one.

I don't think it's a bad name if you are russian or of russian descent. If you aren't, I think it's a little weird.

Then if it works with the last name, why not.

I'm a Ukie who married an Anglo-whatever, so all Ukranian names were out for our little critter...they just sounded awful with my married name.

It's too... dictatorial.

honestly, i think it's kind of pretentious.

i also agree with the connotations, it just seems like a dark name. the only vlads i've ever known have always been really reserved, very quiet guys. it would be awkward to run into a bright fun loving vlad, although i'm sure they exist.

Yes, to all three.

I wouldn't call it a bad name, but it's just kind of out there, to me.

Unless you're going to live in Russia I'd imagine the only other Vlad most people will know is Vlad the impaler and I don't think that's a connection I'd want people to be making about a kid of mine.

Personally I'm not too fond of it... I think it's pretty dark, vampirey, gothy... but if it's stuck in your head and you like it, I would go with it. It's your baby and I'm sure you will decide on the perfect name.

I really love it, but I think it's almost always going to be too gothy/vampiric/pretentious to actually use. If the person is actually of Russian or Eastern European descent though, then you might get away with it not sounding ridiculous.

Too Putin for me. =P I think that will be what people associate it with today, if not Vlad the Impaler, heh. If you really really love it, I'd use it as a middle name.

Vampirey? Gothy? Pretentious? All of the above.
