Since my husband and I have started TTC, naturally, we have been thinking of names. Don't get me wrong, I love off the wall names (not kr8tyv, mind you), but he takes it to an extreme sometimes and it is somewhat annoying to think we might not agree on some and will have to settle on a name we both don't love.

ANYWAYS. I have narrowed down what I would like for a girls name. Some combination of Esme, Astrid, and/or Alexandria. I would like for my child(ren) to be exposed to a lot of culture and whatnot. That is one of my reasonings for desiring a simple, beautiful, somewhat exotic, name for them. Alexandria is an homage to my younger sister with whom I'm very close with. :) Astrid because that is my favourite girls name of all time. Esme because....well, I just like it. It's a close second or third to Astrid. :P

Alexandria will probably get shortened to Alex, which fails to be the simple, exotic name you're looking for, so I'd keep it as a middle name.

Esme Alexandria is gorgeous.

I like Esme Alexandria the best.

Alexandria will get shortened to Alex or Allie, which is cute but not exotic.

Ha, My names Alexandria and I LOVE the name Esme. Unfortunately my name has been shortened to Alex and I'm trying to slip back into Alexandria (I'm sixteen.) But the reason everyone calls me Alex is because that's what my parents called me when I was younger. so if you call her Alexandria all the time it should stick with other people.

I like Esme. Alexandria sounds a bit contrived. Astrid just doesn't sound very pretty - I mean, it's harsh-sounding when you say it.

I don't really get how any of them will help expose your children to culture, other than that they aren't "typical" American names (e.g. Paris Hilton doesn't strike me as very culturally aware...) But I do agree it's a good thing to go with something a little unusual.
