The name Willa has really been growing on me lately. It's beautiful and feminine and easy to pronounce for an English speaker but it also has kind of Nordic vibe to it, which is important for me since I'm from Finland. WDYT about the name? Do you get any Nordic feeling about it?

Also WDYT about the name Emil (it's a boys name)? How would you pronounce it?

AY-mill (well, more like AY-mull, I guess, with our Midwestern accent) - at least that's how my two relatives with that name pronounce it.

Willa is definitely not my style. I don't get a Nordic vibe at all. I get more of an English/American vibe. =/

"EH-mill" (first syllable has a long vowel). I don't like it all that much. It's my uncle's name, though, and I always think about "Emil i Lönneberga." ^^

I agree with the Nordic vibe...but I really don't like Willa. It's too old fashioned for my taste. Then again, there are much worse names out there!

I think Emil is ok. I pronounce it Ay-MEEL. Which is the Dutch pronunciation! ;)

I don't really see Willa as a name, I hear a sound. I know that sounds weird, but I can't describe it any other way.

I don't know of Emil, but I know the French Emile. I assume the two are related. I don't really care for either.

I love Willa.
Emil I pronounce like the name Emily without the y. My cousin's husband and son are named this and that is how they pronounce it.

I'm not a fan of Willa, but it could grow on me :)

I pronounce Emil as Em-EEL.

I love Willa, but I don't get a Nordic feel from it, maybe because the only Willa I've ever met was Haitian. But I don't get that at all.

I do love it, though.

I don't really like Willa, but then again, I think it sounds a lot better in Finnish than it does in English...

My dad's middle name is Émile, and it's pronounced kind of like... ay-MEEL. But I have no idea if 'Emil' would be pronounced the same. Without the accent, I'd say it's probably something like 'eh-MEEL', but I can't be sure.

Willa doesn't strike me as Nordic at all. The most obvious reference point for me is Willa Cather who, while not Nordic, is still admirable :-)

I know a guy named Emil who says (I think) EM-ill, or Emily minus the y. I would be tempted to pronounce it uh/ay-MEEL, however, because I suspect that would be a more German/French pronunciation and the name suggests (to me at least) that kind of foreign influence.

I like Willa. It's pretty. On a side note, actor Philip Seymour Hoffman and his girlfriend recently had a baby girl and they named her Willa. Clearly it's catching on!
