One of my sister's closest friends has two young sons: Ethan and Raiden. Apparently, she let her husband name Raiden after a Mortal Kombat character, but to me, it's just another bad -aiden name to add to the list.

WDYT?

Fun game, but... I don't think naming your kid after a video game character (unless they have a decent non -aiden name) is a good idea.

ehhh Who even plays Mortal Kombat anymore? Adults might get it, but none of the kid's peers would likely have it on their radar.
I also think it falls in more with the -aiden trend these days. It's not my style at all, but it sounds more interesting and masculine than Jayden.

Lol I immediately though Mortal Kombat character too, even before I read the next sentence!

I think if I had a friend named Raiden, I'd always be shouting, "FINISH HIM," and pretending to punch him in the face.

But, as someone said above, since I don't think Mortal Kombat is so popular with the kids today (or do they have another updated version? I'm pretty out of the loop on recent video games), they probably won't be as interested in FINISHING HIM.

All that aside, I'm not a big fan of the name, although it's a little better than Jaiden in my book. And Ethan, I like.

Oh man, poor little Raiden. I love Ethan. Raiden = bug spray. Plus, I wouldn't give my child a name like that any more than I'd name my child Goku, good lord. If you really want to name your kids after characters, at least pick one with a nice name that won't immediately be associated with only that character.

Goku (Even Goten and Gohan) is better than say Trunks or Bra (or Bura). Sorry, had to throw this in. (I love DBZ)

Ahaha! I just got a bunch of episodes for Christmas and randomly got back into it! It's so hard to find DBZ fans who can form a coherent sentence. *cling* And good lord yes, DBZ has some awful, awful names. I cannot say Trunks with a straight face. (Although I wouldn't put it past some people today to name their kids similarly awful things.)

I once talked to someone who wanted to name their son Goku. I wonder if she ever did. You're lucky, I wanted some DBZ episodes for Christmas, but I didn't get any. Oh well. I can always watched what I taped from Cartoon Network back in the day, even though I prefer subs more than dubs. Anyways, getting off track of the baby namestuff... lol, but yes I LOVE Dragonballz and am working on a fanfic now. I set my non anime, non star wars completely original story aside to do the dbz one lol.

Aldjflajlsjldfjlaflajf oh man that is so wrong. Although, as you point out, it could be worse with DBZ namesakes. Much, much worse. And my issue isn't so much with the name itself but with the fact that no one will ever associate it with anyone else but the guy with spiky hair. Maybe it's a legit Japanese name or something (although knowing how he picked a lot of the other chars' names, I doubt it =P), but in the US the only thing people will think is DBZ, and it was popular enough that a lot of people will think it.

Haha! Let me know when you finish it! I re-read some of my friend's DBZ fic a few days ago for nostalgia. It was still as good as I'd remembered.

Also, random, but DBZ singlehandedly rekindled my faith in both het relationships AND canon pairings.

Raiden is a real name, but I can't imagine in a million years naming a baby after the "god of thunder".

Hate Ethan too, but that's just me.
